Mk1 GUV

Fen End Pit

I've started work on another vehicle for the parcels train, a MK1 GUV. So far the B4 bogies have been replaced by Mk1 type. These are Bill Bedford etchings with the sides off Bachmann Mk1 bogies (suitable thinned down). The Bachmann bogies came from Kernow Models last week and at £3.50 for a pair are actually cheaper than some less detailed white metal castings.

The original 'Rail Express Systems' livery came off easily with model strip and will be replaced with plain BR maroon (and lots of dirty). I've not had much luck finding colour pictures of these in maroon from the usual sources, can anyone tell me if they had a yellow band at waist height or were they plain? I'm also guessing that the tops of buffers should be filed a little flatter so the end door flap could fold down.

The buffers were not cut down. A welded metal lug was located on top of the buffer housing to facilitate supporting the door bottom flap.

No idea on the livery, not my period. But I do have a lot of these to do (just placed and order for two boxes more). But as always, Robert Carroll's excellent Yahoo group will no doubt have the answer.
