Thanks to a member on NGRM I have a new plan:

I really like this composition as it gives a slice of the atmosphere of Calshot.

 

Overall I think this plan has a lot going for it, it looks similar to the prototype and works well as a layout. The composition seems to work well. A slipway will be in the foreground in front of the hangar. There may be a pier on the extreme right where the NG siding is. The NG will need to be brought further forward to give the moat enough space.

 

I know this mock up hardly makes for good photographs, but I hope you can see past that and perhaps realise what it is I am trying to achieve.

Looks simple but effective, Jam. Not sure about the points front left, but I guess it is only a mock up at this stage :rolleyes:

Absolutely - I will be buying new track and points probably for both NG and SG. I might try out electrofrog points too. I could theoretically start construction of the layout board proper tomorrow - but I think I'll wait till I've had more feedback before committing! Don't want to rush in too quickly like last time.

 

I may decided not to add a moat to the castle to free up more space for the castle gatehouse and associated buildings.
