Barrow Road Demo at Scaleforum

I have just about recovered from a very busy but enjoyable weekend demonstrating at Scaleforum with two of my friends from the Glevum Area Group, Morgan and Paul.

I took two of the boards to the demo - limited space at this years show prevented me taking any more - these being the roundhouse/workshop board and the sidings board alongside the shed.

A selection of locos and rolling stock was on view together with research material. Thanks go to Morgan for demonstrating his CAD drawings of the 60ft Cowans Sheldon Turntable and the trackwork for Barrow Road on Templot. Despite a very busy weekend he even managed to fit in time to start making some adjustments to reposition the single slip on the mainline - I have decided to add and additional board at the rear of the shed to include Day's Road bridge. [ for those who have seen MRJ200 this is the bridge shown in the article].

Thanks go to Paul for for also demonstrating Craig's superb wagon chassis kit and to Craig himself for also holding the fort whilst the team took their meal breaks.

Thanks to all those RMwebbers who introduced themselves and for all the kind and encouraging comments the team received at the weekend.

An excellent weekend all round.

Sorry I only managed these 2 photos before the show opened - we were too busy for the rest of the weekend to add any more. The demo team Morgan - left & Paul right and yours truly behind the camera:rolleyes:

It was a real treat to see this 'embryo' in the flesh, thanks for spending a considerable amount of time explaining away all the questions I had. This has always looked an impressive project, even more so now. Please pass on my thanks to Morgan and Paul, brilliant stuff!!

It was very busy when I passed by, several times, and you were busy with explanations. Quite mindblowing this project! As Mike says, a treat to see it in the flesh so to speak. I hope it got home safely and look forward to future progress reports. A good addition to a great show.

And thanks from me to Morgan, who very patiently showed me how to get a trackplan scanned from a map into Templot, and start laying track templates over it.

He even gave me the two files that he produced to take home and build further onto. Unfortunately, one of them seems to have blank content when I try and load it, but this is why I <heart> Templot so much...

Robin,

It was nice to have a (far too) brief chat on Sunday - and also with Paul & Morgan. Shame I couldn't spend more time but I was on a tight schedule. As it was, i arrived bang on ten and checked my watch a few minutes later and it was 1 o'clock - half an hour past my planned departure time!

Anyway, it's good to see/hear of steady progress and I look forward to further up-dates here.

Regards,

Dave.

You can tell the show hasn't opened, that demo table got rather less tidy once the modelling started! I did like the idea this year with groups of demonstrators from different projects/eras going over their techniques.

I managed to build a decent batch of wagons bits while manning the table and flog some of my own etches too so I can't complain too much about working when I paid to get in

Thanks to Morgan for going over some of the features on offer in NX4 for decent 3D drawing, I got a copy out of the cupboard in work today to have a play with.

ps Its recommended someone gets Paul an apron for next time so he doesn't need to spend as much time hunting in the carpet ;). Still i've seen the items in question successfully rediscovered and in the right place now..

You're not wrong about you're tidyness Craig! Everytime I returned to my workbench I had to move everything back to where I'd so carefully placed it! :P Again thankyou for minding the bench whilst I had a chance to get a bite to eat and look round the show, it was hard work trying to kick you out so I could get my seat back however! :D

It was good to see you too Dave, even if it was only briefly! Looking forward to the return visit of your 9f, with the progress Robin's making it shouldn't be too long before there'll be rails to run on!

Mike, any further questions about sprung gangways i'll be at Cardiff on the 23rd-24th with Robin on Sheep Pasture. If you want another look, let me know and i'll bring them along.

Hi,

Just a short note, whilst I sit waiting for yet another flight half way around the globe, to say thanks for all those that visited the stand over the weekend to talk about this fantastic project. I hope that you all got something from the demonstrations and were inspired to go off and further your own modelling endeavours. This is the first time I've done a demo and I have to say it is probably the most rewarding experience I've had at a show. Thanks also to Robin for putting up with our constant leg pulling about all those 10 coach trains that need to run up and down the layout. Thanks to a bit of impulse buying I am now trying to figure out what to do with 7 pairs of LMS coach sides. So come on Rob how's about that big fiddle yard? ;)

Cheerio.....Morgan

I thought we'd agreed; you and Paul build the coaching stock and I'll be happy to have a large fiddle yard;)

Have a good trip

Whilst I was suppose to be completing paperwork last night I strangely found my self looking at coach formation's on the S&D, taking particular notice of those that were going to or coming from Bristol.

Morgan I see what you mean about the majority of the trains coming from or going to North spliting at Mangotsfield Jn. The Bristol to Bournemouth would be an ideal rake to model. That said The Devonian would be superb! Now what excuse can we find for re-routing The Pines? :D Whilst all these silly idea's are racing around in our heads I'm currently awaiting a reply detailing the consists, diagram and coach numbers of the formations that traversed the S&D.

Robin on the subject of agreements, didn't we also agree that you don't actually need to put the cars in your garage? ;) :P

Morgan, happy flying!

See you later Robin!

You haven't finished your 4 coach yet never mind the pines :P

I want to see your wagons running on the incline on the 15th eh ;).

Morgan's point about demo'ing is a pertinent one, must admit I felt pretty rewarded the first time I did it. You do get info yourself though too.
