37429 Eisteddfod Genedlaethol.

It seems to have been a while since I last posted an entry here, fortunately the christmas break has allowed me to make progress with a few projects.

Over the past few day's I have started on a model of 37429 in Regional Railways livery, utilising one of the earlier body-shell's on a slightly newer chassis. Having detailed the No 1 end, I am now turning to the small specific details which the locomotive holds and the basis of weathering / grime established using photos.

For the vacuum and air pipes I have used items from the Craftsman range. The MU cable is standard Bachmann; filled to give a more rounded curvature. Hornby 31 buffers have also been fitted, I feel that they are more bulky and realistic than the standard offering.

Trawling through fotopic has shown many photos of this particular 37/4 in service, this has highlighted some added features which will need to be added to the model ( Lamp bracket position etc). I'm also going to replicate the pipe work around the chassis.

The next stage is to begin to weather the chassis, I'm also hoping to take some photo's outside. smile.gif

Chris - that's looking like a great start. Well worth using a small drill bit (0.5mm as a pilot, then using something like a 2 or 3mm) to slowly open out the horns - you need to do this VERY carefully but it's well worth the effort and gives results as good as the brass offerings (which I think often have too smaller a horn end).

Will you be adding snow ploughs?

I'll be sure to carry that out on the horns, I ordered a set of small drill bit's earlier in the week. The photo's I have studied of the loco, show that it did not operate with snowploughs; certainly in it's latter days. smile.gif

I seem to remember reading somewhere and by observation that 37429 never had ploughs fitted, watch somebody come up with a photo now

Spent a good many miles behind 37429 on the North Wales coast in that last summer, as well as the last day, both official and actual
