Seeing that is with DC power not DCC thats very impressive. You need a nice big roundy-round Chris so she can really stretch her legs on a couple of dozen box vans! ;)

Regards,

Nick.

Very, very impressive Chris. My new 53806 has been well run in over the holiday period but I still can't get down to that level of slow speed control. What controller are you using please?

I use a Gaugemaster hand held feedback unit. With good mechanisms, well laid and clean track there is no reason why DC shouldn't be as good as DCC. I think DCC might help with a low grade mechanism - I feed back controller will help in this respect too.

A big S&D inspired roundy roundy, what a fantastic idea! I've always felt the Midford Valley lend's itself to this type of build and with little in the way of pointwork! For a man with your reputation and layout portfolio it shouldn't take you too long Chris!

Back on topic I too have been impressed with the running qualities of my 7f. This may however prove immaterial if my intensions of a replacement etched P4 chassis come to fruition, that would be far in the dim and distance future however!

Best Wishes

Paul

Paul - I'm wondering if we shouldn't start 'propaganding' Comet for a fold-up chassis as per the A2 currently featured in the latest issue of MRJ - wouldn't that be fantastic?

Having seen the recent offerings from the RTR producers the idea of a big roundy-round that never leaves home is very appealing! I went up in my loft last night and have a useable space of 20ft x 11ft, which would be ideal for a massive layout! Being a P4er myself and having nearly finished a Comet chassis, I probably wouldn't use anything else, drop in wheels are alright, but the smoothness of a well-built chassis with a 80:1 gearbox can't be beaten. Having said that Captain Kernow of this parish did convert a Bachmann 57xx for me using an Ultrascale set which runs very smoothly. I suppose it depends on what the RTR chassis is like at the end of the day.

Well, DOH! Apologies for an outbreak of impreciseness, but I did mean Brassmasters, not Comet, Horse.

And... it was an A1 chassis, not an A2! (well, it's big, it's green and it's LNER, what more can I say?!... :P  )

Well and truely hi-jacking this thread now, sorry Chris!

Tim, you of all people! Honestly, I thought you'd know better!!! :P :P :P

Nick, that sounds like a mighty useful layout space you have there! I do quite like the BM chassis overlay's, however like yourself I too prefer the full replacement chassis option, with the chance to open up the inside of the frames too! :D Either way I fully support anyone who would lik to help make to 7f P4able!

Thanks for being such an amenable victim Chris! :D

Time to weather it now, here goes - airbrush out, deep in take of breath. I think I'll stay with the number - too lazy and I've run out of '8's anyway.

I've already drawn up a trackplan for Midford for the popular press when we finally do that well overdue SDJR special ^_^
