I think I've over done this, but I'm still quite pleased  24081 is now officially my first finished locomotive for Colwyn Bay Goods.

Weathering was carried out by applying MIG powders in a thinner wash, quite thickly. Once dry, this thick layer was dusted back with a dry brush to give a more subtle tone. This was then sealed with a quick spray of Dullcote.

Simon,

I made these from soft iron wire. Each pair of MW pipes under a buffer are one piece of wire doubled back in a U shape. As in real life, they pass under the buffer beam and not through it.

I am sure plenty were that dirty - not overdone at all.

Fantastic work Bryn.

The weathering has really brought the engine to life. I am interested in how you use the MIG powders too, I have some but gave up using them as I was far from happy with the results (they just turned into paints!), is there any chance you could go into a little more detail on how you use them?

Also how do you fit DGs to the engines?

MIG Powders - Mine turn into paints too, when mixed with Humbrol enamel paint thinners. Slap it on nice and thick onto the RTR gloss finish and leave it to dry.

Brush off excess when fully dry. I used a large paint brush to smooth over the roof black and a glassfibre brush on the sides to allow more blue to show through.

BUT... I hand painted the yellow ends with matt yellow enamels, the powder will stick to this like glue. Here I used a VERY thin wash of black powder and thinners (about 20:1 thinners:powder) and applied it with the tip of a fine brush.

DGs - I just glued it to the buffer beam, nowt special ;)

I don't think you have overdone it. I seem to rem, ember plenty as dirty as that.

Don

Apologies for double post. It seem to gum up so I re-posted.
