Tracklaying continues

There is some progress to report on the layout blink.gif ohmy.gif

The woodwork on the baseboards is now largely complete, bar some minor sanding to get things matching together across joins nicely. I'm pleased because it means one of my least favourite parts of building a layout are nearing completion. I've learnt a lot about building baseboards, and when I do it next time I think I'll know how to make them considerably lighter than these!

Here are some photos of how the layout stands now, all fascia boards and backscenes added, along with all the card strips to act as the foundation for construction of areas of sea wall.

An overview of the entire layout (minus fiddle yard) looking from the hammerhead pier towards the tunnel in the far distance:

The board that will contain the town along the rear, the running line along the top of a wall (looking very similar to Plockton hopefully) and the harbour office in front of the line:

The mineral quay where the puffer will be moored, with engine shed behind:

View along the rear of the quay up to a small culvert which will drain water from the village out to sea. Beyond this are the goods shed and the part completed ice house and cannery.

To put it all into context here is an overview of the layout courtesy of a poor quality mobile phone video:

A little more tracklaying and I now have a complete run round loop:

Across the baseboard joint are 4 (2 per board) long strips of PCB which retain the rails rather well. These will be covered by deep ballast and some greenery between the tracks.

And from looking round the layout the potential locations for getting photos without any view of 'the outside world' are becoming apparent:

A bit more track at either end of the loop points and I've got myself a shunting puzzle!

Beautifully composed... flowing curves... just looks so promising. Have I said that before Tom?

Thanks both of you, I'm really pleased at the moment as it's matching the images I have in my head of how it should look well.

Jamie, I like the flowing curves too, hopefully more reminiscent of Irish narrow gauge than Welsh ;)
