Leeds 301 arrives..........

First trial print of 301 (LCC1) arrved today with a slightly ammended Middleton Bogie. They are in the 'bumpy' White strong flexible medium, overall I'm quite pleased with it. I also have on order the same car in a new medium called frosted ultra detail, this gives quite superb detail but I'll need to see how it turns out in the printing process.

In theory one of the prints will be used for a resin kit master, however with this process it's relatively easy to re scale the models, so should anyone fancy an easy route to LCC1/Leeds 301 I'll make the print available, in WSF it runs out at 106 euros, this being the price from Shapeways inc worldwide delivery, not the cheapest item but it will get you well on the way. I'll also be altering the CAD to remove the Leeds cut outs so LCC1 will be easier. Midd bogie body shell in 4mm in same medium 29 euros, so you can see how much the additional bulk of the 7mm model adds. Also if it prints well in ultra detail, it should allow 2mm re scales of LCC1 etc.

Also due in the next day or two is the final version of 600, still needing a few tweaks,

Terrific pioneering work! This new medium of 3D printing is looking better and better as a means of making body shells for trams and all sorts of other things too. Congratulations!

These models, particularly the Middleton Bogies, are excellent. I'm sure these will awaken others to the potential of the process, as well as setting higher standards in small-scale tramway modelling, generally.

Thanks for your kind comments fellas, I'm just off doing my own thing, hope it does show what's possible, I still like making things too so CAD work and pressing buttons isn't going to take over from styrene and solvent, hopefully there's a place for both.

Hi there,

I joined RM because of your excellent blog.

So when are you going to do the 7mm Manchester standard? - if you have the CAD already then I will have it printed if that's alright with you. - Let me know.

These models are a great effort and somewhat of an achievement. It must feel great to be a pioneer!
