Its all about the joints...

Hello.

I forced myself today to get the joint between the two scenic boards on Highclere finished off. I have been putting it off now for too long and it was slowing progress on the layout (as if it could get any slower!).

So I can now say with some confidence that I can now run an engine from one end of the layout to the other...

Its a really nice feeling knowing that I am now comfortable with the track, points, and joins and now I can start to look forward once again, although unfortunately all the points are out of action as I still havent got the MERG servo controllers working (I have some new boards on order) but the way I designed them means I can operate them manually.

Finally here is the state of the join just in case anyone was wondering. Its now just a case of a bit of tidying up around the join to totally finish it off.

Glad to here that it is working to your satisfaction Missy. I know just how disheartening it is when things don't work.

I bet you're glad you didn't take it to the tip now, Missy? That baseboard joint looks a whole lot better.

Thanks guys.

It will probably sound a bit weird but I feel kind of 'refreshed' now I am on top of all the trackwork. I can finally start looking at other parts of the layout and hopefully the momentum will return. Its just a shame in a way that the weekend is pretty much over and I wont really get much time to work on it until next weekend.

Considering this is 2mm, that joint looks pretty darn good to me! Once you've got some grass on that embankment & painted the station forecourt it'll be pretty much invisible

Glad to see you've got over your recent lows and worked on that board joint, I'm sure seeing Mark putting those curved boards together has helped inspire you.

Look forward to further updates on Highclere, your work has been very inspirational to many of usyes.gif

Looking good gal

I'm sure seeing Mark putting those curved boards together has helped inspire you.

I would just like to say the building of the end curves was all Julia's work, I just guided her threw it while working on my own jobs.

well done Julia.

WOW!

I honestly wasnt expecting a response quite like that! Thank you lots for the encouragement.

TOME - I dont think it will be totally invisible, thats the panacea every modeller aspires to! Im happy with it and thats the important thing.

Trevor - The pizza style is a long way off, I need to finish Highclere first! I am looking forward to it though because I have learnt so much building Highclere that I hope it will be better.

Jerry - At this moment in time Highclere is going to the RMWeb meet in July, then the Abingdon Show early next year followed by Railex next May. I am trying not to take it too many places until it is finished as people will get bored of it quickly. As for it being a showstopper I dont think so!

I'm really looking forward to seeing this in the flesh at the RMWeb show in July :)

The track looks great, but it's the basics that make it work so well - lovely scenery to date, an understated but well blended back scene, quality rolling stock - the standard is high, but it's consistently high across all aspects. No small achievement :)

I have only just caught up with your blogs. I thought the photo of the track under the bridge looks so real!

I'm glad you haven't given up on Highclere!

I plan to come to the RMWeb meet this year and see it and say Hi!
