First Gateshead Car arrives from Shapeways............

Red Devil

First print of the 4mm Gateshead car has arrived from the Netherlands, this again is in the slightly rough WSF, but it has come out pretty well overall, the roof detail and clerestory roof have come out very well. I'm still waiting on a few in FUD in both 2mm and one in 4mm, hopefully they should look pretty good.

The distinctive gates between the trucks on these cars is already available as an etch from Mark Hughes, and the Tamaden chassis is pretty close in wheelbase etc, but doesn't have reverse max traction trucks, but for an r-t-r chassis is a great option.

GC long car CAD now under way, so G and I layout definately looking possible/probable.

Hope you find the pics of some interest.

That looks beautiful and inspires me to have a go at some bigger 3D printing. I seem to be sticking to T gauge as you pay by the cubic centimetre!

Thanks, glad you like it. Yeah the 2mm versions work out quite well even in FUD, on the other hand I do have all the trams shown on my blog scaled to 7mil and really fancy getting one printed out to that size, probably the Midleton Bogie.

What an excellent result! I cannot wait to see the Manchester cars in 7mm! Maybe you might have the CAD for it?

It's sort of hard to see what the finish is like from the photos. Is there much to do in order to get a fine finish?

This is a very good way of acquiring those rare models, and maybe not as expensive as one might think, given the current cost of standard kits and the time and resource required to build these kits.

Keep it up!

I know at one point you were thinking of doing the leeds overhead derrick, is this likely to happen? Great results from photos so far! Keep up the good work.

Tower car 2, yeah, it's a possibility, the only problem is the amount of work needed to get the chassis right, it's not a two minute task. I think it'd work with the body in FUD and the tower in WSF for strength. To be honest, it probably will happen but a good way down the line because I've already got one! So the need for it isn't desperate for me, having said that I've got plans for another Leeds works car, I'll probably do one of the tippler cars if I can sort out a low enough profile drive.

At the moment there seems to be a million and one projects on the go and only so much time, I'm hoping the next one will be ready shortly, possibly this weekend, unfortunately not in time for members day, but I should have examples of most of the other models with me for inspection.

No it's not too difficult to smooth using filler primer and wet and dry, the 301/LCC1 model is done and smoothed to a very high degree, I'll post some pics of it and other interesting things........7mm etc after the weekend (busy with members day etc!)

I'm researching M/cr standards when I get time, but there will be a Manchester car probably next but one...........

Great! Keep up the pioneering good work, do shapeways have a video actually producing the body, that would be excellent!
