The Duke so Far

Well, work on the Duke will be suspended as I've run out of bits!

The ex-JE etched deflectors will be posted out next week, so I'm told. Chris at Golden Arrow is chasing his supplier for the missing buffers - he already has the cylinder drains.

So I thought a few pics of the current state of play might be a good idea.

I still havn't sorted out the cab details yet, although I have found a pair of Hornby crew that will do fine. Big question is how to fabricate the panel/window behind the driver's seat.....

Coming along nicely, but can I suggest you take a look at the shape of the main drive shaft - in particular the way you have them turn upwards near the cylinders? If you look at photos of the real thing, you'll see that actually, the shafts bend downwards slightly at both ends of the central, larger diameter section.

Dave.

Don't worry Dave, it will all be revised when I get some nice etched covers for the cam boxes and the resin is filed down to represent said boxes ;)

I forgot to ask, do the Golden Arrow parts, e.g. the new trailing truck, allow for the 1ft-longer firebox?

Yes, see my first blog post on the Duke here you can see that the throw of the rear pony is 4mm longer than the stock brit one. This means that you have to be careful with tender coupling as a standard brit length makes for a very close tender indeed!
