In an attempt at keeping the ball rolling as motivational levels are rather low at the moment due to external factors beyond ones control I thought I would pose a picture and a question. So the pic above is pretty explanatory to the people that know and for the rest of us.. it is H3PO4 commonly know as Phosphoric Acid. I shhaaall mainly be using this for soldering and maybe the odd fizzy drink! Shocking to find out they use this in a famous brand of Cola for added zing. Some may remember the 70's ad all I remember was the anti-version.. I digress. Anyway I now have a supply of said flux @ around 7-8% for use on all metals I am reliably informed, well the ones we use for modelling. Just need to get on and use it.

So here comes the question.. what kind of brush should I use for this as I have no clue. My amateurish guess is that as long as you wash the brush at the end of the session it show be ok to use any? So over to my learned friends

Go to your local £1-00 shop and buy a set of their artists brush sets , not much good for painting but ideal for sloshing flux around, when it dead bin it .

If you ask for phosphoric acid at a chemist you will have to sign the poisons register, but Brian Lewis of C+L said his came in large containers marked food grade. Conclusion they are poisioning our food?

You could probably use diet coke as a flux at a push (not the normal ones too much sugar would caramelise your soldering iron).

I use any handy cheap brush you can also use a CPL flux pen its like a felt tip fill up with the flux.

A dash of IPA in the flux can help with wetting.

Do wash this stuff off after each soldering session if you can.

Thanks Don, yes was amazed to find out that they put this stuff in cola. at least.. I always wash the flux off as soon as poss as when I first started soldering I couldn't work out what the green stuff was :) Ooohhh IPA could do with one of those now!
