Bristol Barrow Road - Trackwork Update

barrowroad

After what seems ages I have now completed the first 18 sets of pointwork for the layout. By completed I mean all trackwork shown in the attached photos are now fitted with Bill Bedford slide chairs, Palatine models electrical droppers, are electrically bonded in the appropriate places and have been fully fitted with cosmetic [ around the track rivets] and functional chairs.....what a job!

The next task is to fit Brian Morgan turnout operating units..................these will be the subject of my next post.

All trackwork shown in the following photos has been temporarily positioned for photographic purposes.

Two views of the trackwork, including double slip which allows access to the shed yard from the north end.

Hi, Robin.

That pointwork certainly looks good and makes a big visual impact on the overall layout. Sounds like you've been beavering away and making lots of progress. A bit of plain track to link it all together and you'll have stuff running in no time!

From an initial viewing of the photos, I had thought that the tandem point was actually a genuine 3 way, as the blades all look to come together at the toes, even though the crossings are slightly staggered. Just goees to show one should condider all the available information before drawing a conclusion.

Keep up the good work,

Dave.

PS. A further browse makes me think there might be both a tandem and a 3 way?

It's going to be interesting finding a solution to the TOUs for the threeway in photo 5 - the brass baseplates etches on the Brian Morgan units will overlap as the TOUs are in adjacent sleeper spacings.

Don't show Dick some of those chair positions, hope your switch anchors are all present and correct too ;).

i'll try to do another blog post soon on the Slattocks wiring so you get an idea what we attach to our dropper tags.

Can I assume this is laid onto new Templot alignment that Morgan completed?

Craig can I assume this is the MMRC Dick who checked over your pointwork.... if so I'm sure my chair positions should be kept under wraps:-) Photos of the Slattocks dropper tags would be appreciated but I make no comment on your final sentence.

:) that's the one.

Wiring info up now. Wires are poked through the bottom of those tabs, soldered on and then snipped off the top. Once tested buried in ballast.

Haha fair enough. Can't be as bad as Paul's TPO saga :P. I'll be popping down to Cardiff this weekend to ask him more awkward questions about that :).
