kyle station: layers one + two...

Good evening,

I must admit, having participated in and been following the thread on 'Blog quality' I was wondering whether to continue with my blog(s)...however, I do try to post something regularly and I accept that it may interest some...but not others.

After two weeks of Christmas parties, its time to rest the liver and slot in some modelling...tonight being one such night.

The first layer I am referring to is the glazing layer which was applied a few nights ago and has helped give strength to the base structure. One thing I realised half way through, is that its not necessary to scribe the windows...as they are formed with an overlay sheet... :banghead:

The second layer, the window layer has now been marked out and added and onto this I will add a further sheet which will give further relief to the window frames. The horizontal planking has been the subject of experiments by printing pre drawn horizontals 'greyed out' but I think I will try and scribe these instead. The windows and door frames will be added again as a separate layer.

Its slow progress, but am much happier with it than the plasticard version. I had hoped to complete the 3 month revamp before crimble but I will now use January to try and complete it as the layout will be featuring in the 2mm Association Mag so I need to get a wiggle on to meet the deadline for printing.

A few pics attached...

I hope this of interest to some of you and I should just like to say thanks for all your support and encouragement throughout 2011 and best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.

Pete

And the customary cruel close up shot...using that 'not so popular' currency for scale...

EDIT: A quick pic taken this morning in natural light insitu in the context...I think the station is looking a bit more substantial now and has a bit of presence...

Hi Pete.

The station is coming on really nicely!

I for one would be very dissapointed if you stopped blogging. I always enjoy seeing your work.

Tom.

Yep, please keep posting. The close-up may be cruel but your workmanship certainly stands the scrutiny - I wish I could get my corners so neat and square.

Sounds like we can look forward to a good few updates in Jan. then, great stuff Pete... please keep posting.

How are you aiming to tackle the roof slates?

Thank you all for your comments. My intro about the blogs was really an expression of how I was feeling rather than a 'smoke blowing opportunity'...but thank you all the same for your support of it and I shall certainly keep posting throughout next year. As you are probably aware of my blogs cover all my highs and lows...a bit like watching my football team Stoke City... :O

Tom, Alex, Will, Graham, Ian and Bernard - Thanks and compliments of the season to you all.

Graham - I was thinking of strips of paper but when I saw the impressive slating on the 2mmFS Tavistock blog earlier this week, I sent Ian (scanman) a PM...If I can I will try and pursue this option as in this scale, the 'fifth elevation' (as we architects sometimes call it ;)) can really make a difference to a building...

Pete, I started reading that thread too... but it seemed to lose it's focus a bit. I think I understand what the point of a blog on here is for... and if we receive sufficient "interesting" responses then we're probably doing something right; clearly some others don't see it this way and these were I suppose the subjects of that thread. I intend to continue... as should you!

I agree with your comment that the building is now showing some real poise... the layering method, whilst probably mentioned before, is now clearer to understand given how you've now illustrated it. I hope the progress will continue... I for one (and there are quite a large number of us) will be following.

Oh, and if you want to bring some of those coins over next week, I've a few pennies that I can exchange them for... isn't that the correct exchange rate ;-)

Jon, hi - Agreed on the blog thread - Hopefully the peeps whose blogs were deleted are reading it...

Thanks for your comments re the station...seeing as its the only building on this layout its kind of important, so probably worth the time spent on it. I think the plasticard version was in danger of being hurried hence the rethink.

Lets talk about currency exchange rates over a pint of extra cold Guinness* next week...

*insert favourite tipple to suit ;)

Seeing as it was your blog and Missy's that really grabbed my attention surely that was what both were atempting to achieve. Rather than some pre-conceived idea of what a blog should be. The station building is looking good. I am impressed by your neat cutting. Fortunately I know how small it is, that coin means little to me the only abroad I go is onto the north island across the solent.

Many thanks Don...That's really nice to hear.

In terms of currency I think I had better bag my savings and stick it in an offshore account...and I don't mean the IOW ;)

Jeremy, hi - Many thanks for your support.

The Easitrac is rather nice to work with...the PW team might be working its way down the Looe branch next year, I feel...

Pete... let me add my name to the long list of 'Keep Calm, Carry On-s', your Coombe Junction was the first thing I saw when I first stumbled accross RMWeb while googling Coombe Junction for reasons I can't just recall. It made quite an impression.

That was when it was a thread, but it is all the better I reckon for being a blog.

Substance and presence indeed, both the building and the blog!

(Btw: I was trying to find your past entries with the old station building to compare, but couldn't. Maybe I'm the only one, but I often use the "archives" link in the "My Blog Links" box to find people's past entries. Perhaps worth adding to your index?)

Thanks Will...jolly nice of you to say it.

What, give up this blog? Are you mad??? You even got a trophy for this! Dont be silly!

Many thanks Missy...said trophy is sitting in a cardboard box at my folks house...I will finally get to see it on Boxing Day, although I promised Andy I wouldn't leave the UK with it!

Substance and presence indeed, both the building and the blog!

Many thanks also Mikkel - Thanks too for the archive tip - didn't know about that and will certainly get onto it...

I for one have always enjoyed your postings/blogging a would miss these prose if removed from the blogs. However I think enough people have voiced their views here to keep you from shutting up shop. I admire your modelling and also your drawing skills for the plans.. looking forward to seeing Kyle develop although I liked the box file idea..

The end of a week of partying for me too, I never thought I would say it but thank god..

Happy Christmas Pete, roll on 2012..

Tom, hi

Many thanks indeed...Rest assured, I will be back.

It seems a shame that some people avoid blogs...but chacon son gout...

Although KIAB was upgraded to a shelf, the boxfile idea is not dead yet. I have been pencilled in to exhibit something at the BHMRC 2014 show...and I can't fly in CJM or Kyle...so its going to be something new...in a boxfile...and perhaps using that 411 CEP... :O Something to ponder at crimble whilst I eat mince pies with M+S custard and Brandy cream ;)

Happy Christmas Tom
