Castle Conversion

After much blood sweat and tears the Hornby body and Malcolm Mitchell chassis have finally come together. Once she has received her new identity, Totnes Castle will be very lightly weathered. I think the Malvern Hills make a very suitable backdrop!

A sight for sore eyes! Beautiful work all round. I imagine she must be an excellent runner.

What were the problems that you had to overcome? It looks stunning, any chance it'll be displayed on a suitable travelling layout?

Hi Mikkel.

She does indeed run well and, with plenty of lead on board, she will pull her nine coaches. All the extra weight is removeable as the body may in due course be reunited with the original chassis if Brassmasters do produce a P4 fold up chassis conversion. This criteria has applied to any alterations to both body and chassis as the latter will still have to work with the rest of the Mitchell kit.

Hi Mike,

The only problem between body and chassis is clearance inside the wheel splashers. The faces of these have been carefully reduced to something less than 10 thou. I haven't tested the chassis on anything tighter than 1200mm radius or B6 turnouts. I would need a lot more space to go into detail about the chassis but basically it has been designed very close to the prototype with regard to clearances which has meant a lot of fettling to get it running smoothly!

Robin is hoping to take Barrow Road to Railwells in August, in which case I will bring the Cornishman set across the water with me. The intention is for The Cornishman to be rostered on Barrow Road once it is up and running.

Thanks for the kind comments,

John

Absolutely superb and I want one now ! Fitting some lead would fix my hauling problems too.
