Paint Stirring.

Here's a few tools that I use when painting;

At the top is a Badger battery powered paint stirrer, with the paddle underneath. I use this when stirring paint for spraying. Originally bought as a bit of an indulgence, I previously used a bit of bent wire in a mini-drill which was a faff to set up, I now view this as an essential piece of kit.

Below is a 'Nuffield style' laboratory spatula, used for transferring paint from the pot to a colour cup for spraying. It's stainless steel, which makes it easy to clean, and cost about £1.99 from Squires. Again very usefull.

Then we have a plastic pippette, used for thinners. Dirt cheap from Phoenix Precision's stand, even cheaper elsewhere.

And finally at the bottom is a Tamiya Paint Stirrer, definately an indulgence at £3.99 a pair! But very nicely made in highly polished stainless steel with a small cup on one end and a paddle on the other. Very nice to use but coffee stirrers are free!

I use a 'coffee frother' looks same as the Badger but with a small whisk on the end.

Snipped the whisk off and bent the wire 90* and ....sorted :)

Cost me a pound, in a pound shop!

Looks like some useful tack there Paul.

I've often thought about getting some sort of labour saving stirring device but, always been a bit put off by the thought of tins of paint taking off and splattering the shed walls or worse SWMBO's kitchen!

The spatula looks a good idea though I often mix Humbrol enamels to get colours I need. (The dry stone wall in one of my blog entries being one example of multiple shades of grey)

I use coffee stirring sticks most of the time 1000 for a fiver from Amazon.

Cheers!

Frank

I now use a bit of 1.0mm brass rod bent to a miniature 'coat hanger' shape, and used in an old 12v mini-drill. Seems to work well enough, provided you keep the top of the paint pot covered if whisking at high speed... (I use a bit of 40 thou plasticard with a hole in the middle for the brass stirrer).

I do like the 'Nuffield' style spatula for transferring paint!

BlackRat - I wish I'd thought of that! I obviously don't spend enough time in pound shops.

Frank and CK - I haven't had any serious splatter issues, yet!

The spatula is indeed a most usefull item, and the main reason for this blog entry as its not an obvious tool to look out for.
