After goodness knows how many hours No.12 is finally finished (all bar a bit of coal and some crew). It has been a long road and one which I don't think I would choose to travel down again. However, at the end of the day she doesn't look too bad and runs quite smoothly.

Very nice John. The Backwoods kits look good when they are finished but they are devils to put together. Well done!

Going by how wellyou have done with this kit, why not do it again? You will of learnt a lot, and in general it becomes easier as you do more.

Any one would be happy with a model finished to this quality running on their layout.

Well done again.

Hi Peter,

While I accept that I now know all the problems associated with the kit (even to the extent of having to redesign and scratch build most of the valve gear) there would be no appeal to me repeat the exercise. There are, unfortunately, inherent shortcomings in the basic design in that should there be any problem with the gearbox or motor in the future, they can only be removed by completely dismantling the fold up chassis. I regret to say that, had this been a that kit I was building for myself, it would probably ended up in my 'bits that might be useful in the future' box. However it did have to be finished and I have to admit that I do find it hard to resist a challenge!

Looks really good John what's next on the workbench?Robin

For myself, finishing off the rake of coaches for the Cornishman.

Workwise. Overhauling some large scale locos and putting some life back into the trees/undergrowth on Neil's Letterkenny layout. He's also talking about having the Donegal Town layout rewired and tidied up. I guess that will see me through to retirement in August!

That is an impressive looking beast! Nos 11 and 12 were purposeful looking, but elegant locos. I've often wondered how easy it would be to capture the flavour of it in a large 009 loco.
