Tracklaying Masterclass

I tried to convince these folks of the merits of Easitrac or even soldered PCB construction, but they seemed happy with their own way of doing things

Still, they managed to lay about 12 feet of track in under 5 minutes, so maybe it's not a bad approach.

Their next move was to rip it all up again, which sounds a lot like what some people write about on RMWeb, so I think that there's hope for them yet.

The ballast already had indentations for the sleepers. If this is a new Foam track base it looks very realistic. When can we buy it in the 2mm shop?

Laying and then Ripping up 2mmFS trackwork is one of the pleasures of working at this scale...if you haven't already done so...I would thoroughly recommend it...

All you need is a squashed fishplate Nigel, then you can solder the 2fs track on top for a smooth join :D

I did notice some other similarities - several teams had issues with keeping their track to the correct gauge. One of them decided that bashing the track gauge with a hammer was the best solution to this problem.

Most of the teams seemed to agree that a liberal sprinkling of swear words was a definite requirement.

On the other hand I have yet to see a 2mm modeller throw himself bodily onto the nearest patch of grass on completion of a length of track.

I thought that was standard practice? Does this mean that my lawn didn't need to have all of these body shaped imprints :)

We have a paved terrace, not grass and it has a few body shaped dents in it... ;)
