"Pathfinder & Gresley A4s"

So the decision has been made - I'm going to do a short section of an in the planning stage "modular" layout, and the idea is to represent certain locations on the Leeds-London main line. With each section hopefully one day being built up into a fully functioning layout.

With that in mind, I have started drawing up more plans (!), this time for curtailing my rampant spending on locomotives (with only four purchases planned for this year now), and concentrate on building up a few authentic or near as possible, rakes of coaches and mixed goods trains, as well as track, ballast and polysterene insulation blocks...more on that another time.

Finally...I will shortly re-start work on my A4 Pacific conversions. I have an exciting update to share, once the test etches are done and it's signed off and paid for.

This will mean revisiting 60022 and 60010 as projects in the near future, to hastily revise portions of their conversions and bring them up to standard with my next planned A4 conversion - Dwight D. Eisenhower. This will be the first to use a "De-valancing" etched sheet, designed to my specifications and hopefully showing what can be done with a garter blue Hornby A4.

This particular engine is a good one to choose, as it kept its stainless steel lettering until repainting into Express Passenger blue at the end of 1949. I intend to model it, therefore, as LNER no.8, possibly with the "E" prefix on the cabside.

That, and I have managed to get a few bottles of Johnson's Klear, so an adaptation of my weathering technique may be incoming...!

Until next time.
