A1 Models Freelance 009 Diesel - part 1 footplate.

On the workbench at the moment is an A1 Models etched brass body kit which I'm going to mount on a Farish 03 mechanism.

The kit is designed for the Bachmann 6w switcher chassis, however I feel that using the inside framed jackshaft driven 03 chassis will give the loco a more British feel.

The body kit is designed to fit straight onto the Bachmann chassis with the body removed so I've made up a brass footplate to marry the etched body and Farish chassis together.

The footplate is made from 20mm x .3mm brass strip, I cut out the middle with a piercing saw and used a scrawker to scribe fold lines for the bufferbeams;

Some 1 x 1mm brass strip can be seen soldered under the footplate, partly for strength and partly to help align the valances. Valences are made from 8mm x .3mm brass strip, two pieces were cut to length and soldered together before being cut to shape and seperated.

14BA nuts are soldered to the footplate top for chassis mounting;

The chassis bolted in place;

Anyone who has used one of these chassis will be aware that the mounting points are lower at the front than at the back; I will glue a piece of plastic under the front of the footplate to even the chassis out.

All soldering done with my trusty 25w Antex, Eileen's Strong Flux and 188 degree solder.

Thanks Pete and Frank (and all those that pressed 'Like This')..

Although I must say that the only things that I'm the master of are the dogs! And they have selective deafness...
