A1 Models Freelance 009 Diesel - part 2 cab.

I've been working on the cab.

This comes etched in one piece;

I've drilled holes for handrails and door handles. Strangely the left hand side door has the handle at the front and the right hand side door has the handle at the rear.

Folded up and soldered together;

All bends are re-inforced with a fillet of solder, not strictly necessary perhaps.

I used a Bill Bedford handrail jig to bend up the handrails, which are made from .45mm diameter brass wire. Door handles are .33mm diameter.

All soldering so far done with 188 degree solder. To solder the cab to the footplate without melting any previous joints I used 145 degree solder;

188 flows much better than 145 resulting in neater joints. The joint between the cab bottom and the footplate still needs some cleaning up.

I tend to only use the 145 for adding detail.

Looking good. What is it about 50mm long?

Thanks Pete.

You're close, its 47.5mm long.

I was a bit worried about putting too much heat near the 14BA nuts and having them come unsoldered!

Paul.
