    Saturday 5th January
    Railway Photograph Fair
We started holding photograph fairs as part of a bigger event with old postcards some twenty years ago. The photographs were to supplement our postcards, but it was not long before the role was reversed and we found that the photograph element of the fairs warranted a separate event of its own. So we launched our railway photograph fairs and have never looked back. They have grown into probably one of the biggest events of its type in the country.
The format is that we fill the upstairs room at the museum with tables and dealers come from far and wide with their photograph stocks for you to browse through and hopefully pick up some images you have not seen, or not got in your collection, or even to illustrate an article or a book that you are preparing (subject to copyright of course). In addition to the dealers, the museum has its own computers open to show you the database of photographs we hold (currently about 230,000 black and white images and 40,000 colour images), and you can order copies if you want them. All in all there must be a good million plus images in the room, so you will need time to browse. The range of material is enormous both in geographical location, subjects and dates of photographs, so you stand a very good chance you will be able to add to your collection.
The dealers who are booked in to the fair on 5th January include Mike Cremin, Roger Carpenter, Rod Blencowe, Jeremy Sutor, Mike Bentley, Mike Thorp, Duncan Chandler and Friends of Hampton Loade station. If you have never been here before, then it is well worth the visit, and between browsing, there are the tea rooms downstairs to refresh the appetite!
The doors open at 10.00am and admission is free. The fair closes at 4.30pm.

    • Railex 2019 Model Railway Exhibition
      By Kingzance,
It has been some time since I last went to an exhibition and this one, whilst more than an hour away from me with no direct public transport route available, offers a wide range of suppliers / trade stands and some of the layouts that I have found inspirational from the modelling press. Not being as large as Warley, I feel it will be much more "do-able" in one full day whereas anything larger and you feel you have missed part of it. I will be ordering bits from a few suppliers (Alan Gibson, Green Scene, ModelU at least) in advance so I can pick up my needs on the day.
    • Guildford 'O' Gauge Group open day
      By paftrain,
For some unknown reason it has appeared on the wrong day! It should read 7th April NOT 9th. Could mods please correct this?
    • The 6th Chris Kedgeley Memorial Skills Day
      By NorthHighlander,
An excellent day. I was invited late to attend as a demonstrator and I didn’t get much chance to look around which is a very positive thing. I took along one board from Tregaron Upper plus the fiddle yard. The TU board is 41 years old and at the end of the day I ran the first loco on it EVER! Thanks to Jim’s Summers, Mackenzie and Pairman and Richard Chown for helping me. Got home at midnight 50 and crashed out on Sunday!
    • Model Rail Scotland 2019
      By cessfordalan,
I cannot comment on the Glasgow show as I do not fly to Glasgow until Thursday morning, but If it is anything like the last one it should be great. Living as I do, through choice;is  in the Western Isles it is also a chance to mingle with a friendly like minded crowd and do some serious modelling shopping as the nearest model shop is a two and a half hour ferry crossing plus a sixty mile coach journey in each direction, so a fabulous weekend is planned

    • Monmouth Model Railway show
      By Phil Bullock,
A very friendly show - usually try to get to this one. Some excellent layouts and wider modelling interest too - a couple of local traders to support and an excellent book sale stall at which I picked up a couple of gems. All in all well worth a few hours on a Sunday
