After a two year covid-enduced hiatus, we are very pleased to announce that DEMU Showcase will take place this year on 23/24th July 2022 at Sutton Coldfield Townhall in Sutton, just north of Birmingham city centre. As you are probably aware, we have been looking for a new ‘home’ for Showcase after leaving Burton-on-Trent Town Hall in 2018 due to the space available to hire reducing considerably that year. Unfortunately, in 2019 we were forced to re-arrange the show at very short notice after cancellation by our anticipated new Burton venue and ended up at Greenbank Leisure Centre in nearby Swadlincote. The Showcase organising team are mindful of the need for stability and to try and find a location that we can call home for a number of years to come. We believe that we have found this with Sutton Coldfield Town Hall. On this basis, we have decided to ‘bite the bullet’ and move the show this year. Unfortunately, the price we pay for this means moving from our usual early June date to mid July. Rest assured, this is a temporary arrangement for this year only and we plan to return to our early June slot from 2023 onwards. Not only is the Town Hall an extremely characterful building, but it is a mere 2 minutes walk from Sutton train station and only 5 minutes walk from the centre of Sutton Coldfield itself. Sutton Coldfield is well connected to the national motorway network in the centre of the country and only a few minutes off both the M6 and the M6 toll. There is also plentiful parking nearby. Regarding the covid situation, If the last two years are anything to go by, we anticipate that mid summer gives us the best possible opportunity of running a show with little or no restrictions. Clearly however, if the situation changes we may be forced to restrict numbers and comply with any other regulations that might come into force. We look forward to seeing you this summer in Sutton!

Sadly we have had to cancel the 2021 Fareham RailEx - but not for the obvious reasons... There is building work going on at Fareham Leisure Centre to provide a new entrance into the centre which effectively writes off sensible access to the lower level where the bulk of the exhibition takes place. We are expecting to be back in 2022 subject to the venue operators being willing to have us back in their glitzy new building and announcements will be made in the usual places once the dust settles. In the meantime we may organise a series of "pop-up" events around Fareham town centre and the outlying shopping areas and community halls. Details will be posted here and on UKMODELSHOPS as we arrange them.

We had hoped to be able to avoid this, following a meeting of the club we have taken the tough decision to cancel our 2020 Exhibition in July. This has not been taken lightly, but given the uncertainty surrounding the timescales of the virus it is unlikely we will be able to put on the show this year. Cupar Model Rail will return in 2021, and details will be posted on our social media pages and our website in due course. We want to apologise for any disappointment that this may cause, but I’m sure you will all understand the reasoning behind our decision.

With the world of railway modelling expanding every day the potential skills involved are growing all the time. The Chiltern Model Railway Association’s Interactive Modellers Workshop is here to help. We have assembled a group of experts in one place to advise and help you. Ever wondered how they manage to fit speakers in such a small space? How to solder wires to the track? What skills 3D printing involves? Or even how one crafts scenery together? We are bringing together experts on Kit Construction, Electronics, Baseboard construction, Scenic design, as well as insurance, valuation and traders. We can help with the answers to these, and many other, questions. With a small number of layouts and trade stands it is a relaxed atmosphere in which you can sit down and have one to one conversation and, hopefully, solve some problems and learn some new skills.
