  1. a bad and frustrated weekend

  2. Dave. gareth phoned me today and has got the 1st run back running with lights by fitting a Bachmann decoder i believe although has stated cant replace until more info about what is happening. The 2nd one is a far worse state although still runs has completly melted the light decoders and 4 of the led lights. As stated to gareth i am using gaugemaster combi controllers but have had no problems with any other loco so cant see this being the problem but seems to be drawing to much currant for the decoder. I thank you for your time and effort to help but is a big concern as no one else has reported any of these faults of late. Just want a trouble free one to hopefully lead to a few more to replace my Heljan ones. regards. richard.
  3. Is it me as had the western replaced today only to find the 2nd one has done exactly the same and burnt out the decoder for the lights within the same time.I add i am running dc and have had no problems with any other locos including the Dapol 22s.its so frustrating as to what is happening and wonder if to keep trying. help. richard.
  4. Dave Thanks for reply and on your part no need to apologise and your imput and time is valued. regards richard.
  5. although i have contacted the model shop and are happy to replace whats the chance that this is a common fault that has slipped through chinas qc department as seems that others are reporting this fault. i will add i run it and did not seem to want to speed up then flickered and burst into speed but all lights then failed and smoke came pouring out.Is this going to be a common error.i stress i have had no new build staight from the box loco ether do this and my Dapol 22s still run fine.Pardon the pun but we seem to have a excellant detail western at last but with quality issues. richard.
  6. took home a green 1038 today thinking and being very proud only to find disaster strike within 2 minutes in that all lights have siezed working and a burning acrid smell coming from her.i have also found one bogie does not seem to swing freely as with the other one.She was tested before purchase i must add and still runs but without lights.Anyone else suffered this. richard.
  7. rugd yes if you find them let us know. my 1st sighting was 1030 western musketeer back in october 73 believe it or not came in light engine from st johns into bedford midland on a satuaday then left towards luton possibly to pick up empty stone wagons from leagrave. on stone workings they use to run round at midland and do the same and go down to leagrave having come up from bletchley.seen a few pics at leagrave/luton and even kempston but alas none at bedford.. regards. richard.
  8. 1973-76 will do as this is wene i saw them around bedford/bletchley on stone workings but alas no damm camera at the time. cheers. richard.
  9. Yes dave.27/2/77 westerns taken out of service...27/2/2013 westerns reborn thks to you and Dapol. ha ha bedford vans dont count but very funny. richard.
  10. Have noticed the shot of queen shows headboard clips removed in that clip, possible due to that accident mentioned was it as early as 1963.also noted the date of withdrawel seems wrong..again thought it was feb 76. nice shot thou. richard.
  11. Still awaiting a shot of a wezzie at bedford or bletchley my 1st place of sightings of them. richard.
  12. jim. queen repaired and went onto to survive until early 1976. richard.
  13. Sounds like a western pickle . yes more pics of model thousands would be good. richard.
  14. am i take to take it that those than still run on dc it will require a decoder change which alas means the body will have to be removed or are they ok on dc straight from the box. nice slide show by the way. i will require 2 banger blues for my time span, mainly maroon ones for me. richard.
  15. Am i to take it that those like me that like adding a crew to the cabs have now got to wait for the 2nd production run as most reviews seem to say avoid taking apart. There was me hoping to have all my Heljan ones replaced by march this year. And does this also include the kernows versions having the cab glued in with the headcode. As mentioned i have no problem fitting fox transfers waterslide headcodes over the front but having a cab glued in is another thing. And last is this to delay further what i like many have been waiting for,a western of all westerns. richard.
  16. More photos welcome phil. roll on the Dapol western. loads of pure watching this layout. cheers. richard.
  17. I believe 1005 recieved works attention due to cab damage in 67 and was released in blue with headboard clips missing from that end.so in viery all her blue livery days. Not an ideal one to model so all my blue ones will carry a change of plates. richard.
  18. I for one await this model with excitement faults or no faults which to me seem easy to amend. Lets not forget what we have had to put up with over the years and in my eyes the best ever looking diesel ever to run on our railways is getting that treatment at last and thank Dave and Dapol for this. richard.
  19. As this is photo review topic allways welcome pics of 52s,that last one clearly shows the numbers in the headcode take the box up fully with no gaps. I have started using fox transfers waterslide headcodes by simply painting the glazing before use a light white so they show through and are still visible in daylight. More pics of the Dapol western please,as to drool over before release. richard.
  20. Cant remember seeing a thousand with a rubbed out D. but painted over yes.I also believe only one D1018 lost a nameplate after a scrape one side whilst still in service, but am sure i may be proven wrong. richard.
  21. Just champion sums this model up,congrats to dave and the Dapol team. roll on delivery time, then i can start parting with my Heljan ones. richard.
  22. looking forward to dapols class 52 western

  23. Nice one dave. Look western and thanks for all the hard work in getting it right. Roll on january. richard.
  24. Top marks here,a truly breathtaking layout. richard.
