  1. Perhaps a complete kit would be a better idea. Then at least the total price is known from the start and novices like myself wouldn't miss buying a vital part, although at £7 and axle plus gears and muffs and then motor etc, the complete chassis cost is going to be somewhere near the cost of the grafar donor It's a shame the association can't sell completed chassis, I understand that some people enjoy building locos but it all seems to daunting to me, I'd rather spend £75 on a ready built chassis I know is going to work.
  2. Do the 2mm conversion kits come with everything need to convert the locos, inc wheels? 3-680 Class 03 diesel shunter (Farish) £15.00 each 3-681 Class 08 diesel shunter (Farish) £20.00 each 3-700 Jinty conversion kit to convert Graham Farish Jinty to 2FS
  3. I visited the Uckfield MR show last week and and got to see Tucking Mill and Wentfordbridge Goods depot in the flesh and was fortunate to meet both Jerry and John who were excellent company and my thanks to both for the advice and encouragement given.
  4. I spent the afternoon taking the final set of photos for an ngauge layout I've just finished before heading back to an unfinished 2mm layout Dapol's new Westerns are beautiful and GraFar's new departmental BG's are pretty good as apart from having HST legends rather than S&T
  5. Having finished my 2mm shunting layout and before going back to complete my first 2mm shunting layout, I needed a quick fix, so I cannibalised my 2mm service depot from the RMweb 2011 challenge and used some of the parts to build a quick ngauge shunting plank which can be found here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/88107-ngauge-shunting-plank-no1/

    Dapol Class 22

Should you really have to fiddle about like this on something that cost you over £100? If you bought a mobile phone or a TV, would you still take them apart and try and fix the problem, or would you return them under guarantee to the shop you bought them from? Trouble is, all the time people fiddle and solve the problem, the manufacture remains blissfully unaware there is a problem, however if the they get umteen returns, then they become aware quickly as this starts to cost them money.
  7. Using some 2mm trackwork I have spare, some ngauge track and a cardboard mock up, I'm playing around with the idea of another depot
  8. The traverser is impressive Nick, I'm currently working on an ngauge shunting plank which is near completion and after that I have 3 different 2mm layouts in various states of construction to complete (all no more than trackwork at the moment) I find flitting between projects keeps me motivated
  9. Probably not achievable in ngauge, but certainly proves the point in 00/H0 I do not understand why the manufactures can't see the potential?
  10. Hi Rich, welcome to the debate, all comments are welcome. I agree my video is pretty poor, but the prototype in the video is just that, a prototype to prove the theory, which others have done on this thread far better than I have. perhaps you could post a video of your layout demonstrating the ultra-smooth running at low speeds Rgds, Stuart
  11. V impressed, Is this RC? I feel the need for you to share the details with us .
  12. My first ever threeway turnout, hopefully the first of many
  13. I've just returned my model to Hatton's for a replacement due top poor running, even after the prescribed 1hr running in in both directions, the little loco still juddered and refused to run smoothly at low speed, which I'm assuming is down to the quartering. I'd be interested to know if anyone else has has the same problem
  14. Welcome to the cause and good luck with your conversion, be sure to let us know how you get on
  15. Welcome to the future and this thread. For what it's worth, I agree with many of you guys on here - this technology is the future. Is anybody trying to define standards yet? Is there any international cooperation? I wish, we can't even get the likes of Bachman, Dapol or Hornby to take an interest let alone reach international agreement
  16. My copy of MRJ has just landed on the matt, Really pleased to see the article on TM Congrats, looks v good

    Dapol Class 22

Dapol do not have a great reliability record at the moment but they are aware of this and are trying to make amends. From the recent personnel changes and yesterdays press release from Dapol re KMR it makes me think there is more to all this than meets the eye. However back to your question.....at the moment You pays your money and takes your chances, at least there is now a UK dealership that can repair your loco if something does go wrong, however make sure you follow the oiling instructions otherwise they may well blame you for mis-use. as happened to me with my class 121.
  18. Nice one One day ALL model locomotives will be powered by a rechargeable battery and controlled by a radio link As I said in my original post on this thread, with larger locos the battery's could be made into the shape of the chassis and then there would be no need for a trailing battery/Transmitter/Receiver in a wagon or carriage. I think the next step you could try, is seeing if you could reduce the battery/Transmitter/Receiver into a shunters truck? Good effort though, well done and Keep up the good work Rgds Stuart
  19. Gent's a link to a like minded person down under http://www.members.optusnet.com.au/satr/electronics.htm
  20. Love the slip, any chance of a close up? Nice model all round Must be great fun to shunt
  21. Nice, track work, very neat I also agree about using long lengths of track to achieve a nice flow
  22. Any chance of some (un-blurred) photos of this impressive model as I would really like to see the detail, very inspiring
