  1. Hello everyone Ivor fans will be able to vote for him in the forthcoming Quirky Poll 2020 - due out over Christmas. He was second in the 2019 Poll - not far behind Rocket (which has now been produced). Brian (on behalf of The Quirky Poll Team)

  3. Hello Michael and all readers Many thanks for the tip. Do you use it on the wheels/flanges of hauled rolling stock too? I have used it on axle bearings with good results, but wondered if it would 'rub off' to track and maybe cause slipping and/or electrical problems. You say above that you are using it on pointwork. Many thanks Brian
  4. Hello again Gilbert To add to my earlier post about Ben Brooksbank (who was a fellow member of the Steam Railway Research Society), thread readers may like to know about two of his books - picture below. Sadly, the second volume was produced poorly from the photos point of view. All the best Brian
  5. Hello Gilbert Just for clarification...the photographer's name a couple of posts back is Ben Brooksbank (not Brooksbanks). Brian
  6. Hello everyone Has anyone spotted differences in the two images supplied by 'thefin' a couple of posts back? Brian
  7. Hello again Yan Two other books worth getting: Top Shed by P Townend Scenes from the Past 44: Rowsley Motive Power Depot, Brian
  8. Hello Yan Your plans look very good and I'm sure you will make a great job of it. I'm pleased to hear that you are buying the S&D Bluebook Organised Chaos. Although some places may list me as 'the author', I simply 'compiled' the contents on behalf of the S&DRT. I'm sure you will enjoy reading it - I knew (the late) John Barber very well and - of course - Peter Smith is still very much with us! I will PM you an article I wrote some years back which might help. And the link to the You Tube film below, although LMS, might help. All the best Brian
  9. Hello everyone Just for info - the USATC S-160 has been in The Top 50 of The 00 Wishlist Poll since 2014. It was overall top-voted item in 2019 (the last Poll to run). As far as the 2019 Top 50 goes, readers might be interested that: 6 items have been announced; 4 of those 6 were in The Top 10; 2 of those were in Second and Third place - just a handful of votes behind the S-160. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  10. Hello everyone Received a loco next day (as usual with Bure). Top rate! Brian
  11. Hello Mike Many thanks for this - I have a feeling that I will have to apply modeller's license and buy one! If anyone from Rapido would like sight of two very clear and up close photos of what I am fairly certain is No.1504 (with early emblem), please PM me. I'm afraid I do not have copyright on the photos so will be unable to post here etc. I am sure the ex-Old Oak Common railwayman owner would be happy for Rapido to use them 'for accuracy checking' though. The late Ben Brooksbank was a fellow member of the Steam Railway Research Society. I have added below a link to his obituary for anyone who would like to know a little more about him (although 'off topic' for this thread). Brian
  12. Hello everyone Does anyone know if Didcot's No.1502 ever visited Oxford? If it did, it will convince me to order one from Rapido! Brian
  13. Hello everyone And to add to the above...Radstock as well as Midsomer Norton (both on the Somerset & Dorset Line). Some of the contents of the vans were for a local area gunsmith. Brian
  14. Hello everyone Congratulations to Rapido on this welcome announcement! The loco has been in The Top 50 of The 00 Wishlist Poll since 2015. In 2019 (the last poll), it finished up well within The Top 10 and was the second most wanted GWR loco (behind the Manor). We wish the company every success with the project! And every success to Richard Foster in his new post. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  15. Hello everyone Many congratulations to all those involved with these locos - we wish the project every success. We listed Harwicke in The 00 Wishlist Poll - in the last Poll, the loco only just missed being in The Top 50 by a handful of votes. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Poll Team)
  16. As far as I know, the layout was taken down when house decoration was needed many years ago. He moved to O gauge and 'slimmed down' his 00 collection some months back. We can now see why that 'slimming' was undertaken. As part of that, he offered a number of locos 'free, gratis and for nothing' to the Poll Team and I was fortunate to receive West Country 34006 Bude - which was his favourite loco. Although it was 'free', I did assure him that I was making a decent donation to a charity and this pleased him greatly. I forgot to say in my original post that you will find many milk and coaching stock related articles by Glen in the railway and model railway press - too many to list here - and that his name appears 'in credits' in numerous books, articles and websites. Brian
  17. Hello everyone I have the sad duty to report the passing of fellow 00 Wishlist Poll Team member, Glen Woods (of Brighton). Glen and I first met in the mid-2000s on what was MREmag in Pat Hammond's days. We had a shared interest in 'things SR' as well as more specifically in milk trains and carriage workings. Our friendship grew so that - by around 2010 - he was firmly established with about eight others of us from MREmag who were by then known collectively (for convenience) as The Loco Team looking at and discussing various locos that we thought might come to market. When Pat asked us to run what many of you now know to be The 00 Wishlist Poll, Glen (and team-mate Chris Knowles-Thomas) made a fine job of writing up copious SR notes for the accompanying Guide and keeping them up-to-date over the years. Alongside side all this, he was a regular volunteer at The Bluebell Railway Archive and ran a number of Yahoo Groups. Although a keen 'milk man' (so to speak), a major passion was researching and writing up data from the records of Lancing Carriage & Wagon Works. In 2014, his book - Lancing 1956 - was published by St Petroc InfoPublishing. In 200+ pages, it gives dates in and out of the works for coaches as well as what types of repair were undertaken and when repainting took place. The Team - and many others - will miss him greatly, not least his very close family, who we think of today in the knowledge that funerals are now harder than ever before. To Glen from all of us...thank you so much for your friendship and the generosity with which you freely shared your hard-won research. We won't forget it. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Wishlist Poll Team)
  18. Hello Andy & Phil Many congratulations on another fine show! You made it look easy! My only regret is that I didn't have time to watch all day each day and will have some catching up to do. Looking forward to the next one. Brian
  19. Hello everyone Many congratulations to Ben and Heljan on this announcement...we wish them every success with this undoubtedly popular model. It has been in the upper echelons of the High Polling segment of The 00 Wishlist Poll for many years. In 2019, it was only just a whisker outside The Top 50. Kind regards Brian (on behalf of The 00 Wishlist Poll Team)
  20. Hello Jonathan Superb! Brian
  21. Hello paulbb Try All Components. I have just had four 00 repaired. Brian
  22. Congratulations to you all on this announcement! It was the second most wanted vehicle in the Freight Stock: 1964 - Current category in The 00 Wishlist Poll 2019. Brian (on behalf of The 00 Wishlist Poll Team)
  23. The Annual 00 Wishlist Poll – A Statement from The 00 Poll Team (7.9.20) Hello everyone We normally run The Annual 00 Wishlist Poll in October. However, during the past year we have been giving deep thought and consideration to its future. Bear in mind that The Poll has an accompanying Guide – not far off 100,000 words and over 1500 links – which takes many months of review and revision by The Poll Team in the background. Voter numbers have generally increased since we first started but – no matter how hard we try with dozens of personal contacts and hundreds of Press Releases etc – the pollster figure hovers around the 2,500+ mark. Additional to that, the results have been very consistent year-on-year with many new models coming to market that have featured in either The Top 50 or the High Polling segment. The Poll Team has worked together for over 10 years now and dates back to when we were collectively known as ‘The Loco Team’ on the erstwhile MREmag. The Team has stuck together through thick and thin, and has produced a Poll that we are very proud of and one which we know many of you have enjoyed each year. We believe it is now a case of ‘mission accomplished’ and have taken the hard – and deeply heartfelt – decision to bring this annual event to a close. We would like to thank all those who have supported us through the years; in particular, there would not have been a Poll without Pat Hammond and Phil Parker (both late of the original MREmag) and more recently with Andy York here on RMweb. We appreciate you all! Although The Poll will not be running, The Team itself is staying together and will – as usual – help with comments and information where needed. No doubt we will soon be working with Phil and Andy on the next Quirky Poll! Yours most sincerely The 00 Wishlist Poll Team Neil Burgess, Robert Carroll, Chris Knowles-Thomas, John Lewis, Jeff Lynn, Brian Macdermott, Nick Stanbury, Ian Taylor and Glen Woods
  24. Hello again Tony I thought readers might like to see my controller. (I have others, so this is No.1.) I have fitted self-adhesive Velcro around the outside - easier on the hand and less likely to slip out and drop. The 'centre' switch has a plastic cover which - again - is easier on finger as it has a little 'give'. This is needed as I do a lot of shunting. I have made an extender for the throttle from foam board. This is simply a press-fix and is held tight by the groooves. By having a greater circumference, I get finer control. Brian
