  1. Sorry double post, meant to edit a smelling corruption!
  2. Now if they were genuine hair eyebrows........ But they're only painted on surely?
  3. Like the nice solid sounding clunk's as they pass over the paintwork. Regarding loads I have a tub of 'coloured mineral' used I think for the bottom of fish tanks. Bought years ago from I can't remember where unfortunately.
  4. Can I ask for some advice from the assembled audience please? Yesterday I received an email from Shell energy who I was transferred to when my supplier went bust last year. We have an old meter running an economy 7 tariff, having lived here for 35 years now I don't think the meter has been changed in that time. I send monthly readings and pay a fixed direct debit. The email stated that the radio teleswitch system will be unavailable after March 2023 and therefore the overnight cheaper rate won't be available. They, of course, have the answer in a smart meter which I'm still dubious about but beginning to think is an inevitable result? I'm not rushing into any decisions, partly until there seems a little more clarity on how prices are going, only upwards unfortunately, but resigned to probably having to go down that route eventually Any advice and suggestions gratefully received, thanks in advance.
  5. Too late, everything left has gone to the recycling centre
  6. Didn't know Wile E Coyote had taken up bricklaying.
  7. Seems quite obvious to me. Given a small loco it's unlikely to be travelling very far at a time, either shunting a yard or perhaps on pick up freight duties. When a suitable break in the work occurs the small bunker is topped up, when stationary, from the extra supply rather than having to return to depot. Water columns for the tanks are fairly frequently placed so that is less of an issue. Nice looking little model.
  8. When I was a 'trolley dolly' (ugliest one you'll ever see) working Liverpool-Norwich in the same 12 hour day Ely provided a very pleasant respite when on 170s. Most services had around 15 minutes standing time at Ely, so a chance to be outside and breathe some fresh air instead of the stale 'air conditioned' atmosphere of a 170!
  9. Also, a 'celebrity' livery on the Central 170 in the last photo, officially if I remember correctly the colour was cerise, personally I just thought it was pink! 170399
  10. For some guidance, both March and Worksop, to my knowledge, have been painted in a green and cream scheme in recent years. May or may not be fully authentic but should be something like if you can visit either of them.
  11. Just brought in the mags I've had in 'free to a good home' thread. A small donation to club funds would be appreciated, but any remaining will either go in the bins here, be left for the demolition people, or go for recycling on Monday. They won't be going back into my garage!
  12. The mags are now at our Spring show at High Bank Community Centre, Clifton, Nottingham. Still free, but a donation to club funds would be appreciated. Any remaining will either go into the bins here, although as the centre is officially closed after this weekend may just be left for the demolition people, or to the recycling centre on Monday.
  13. Regarding common or garden models, we still have in my son's ownership, what was my dad's 1.6 Montego. Seems there's quite a few MGs and such but when I last looked there were 3 1.6s from the same year
  14. The thing is you'd also need some pretty potent plant killer to keep them away. A few years ago there was a massive clearance of trees a little to the east of Nottingham, around Colwick crossing for those who know the area. Looked almost scorched earth by the time they'd finished, the following year it was all green shoots and now 5 or 6 years later it's back how it was ,probably more densely packed.
  15. Just a shameless bump and reminder the show is this weekend, it will be the swansong for the Community Centre where it's being held. There will be bacon cobs with brown or tomato sauce, none of this (apparent) foodie nonsense of marmalade on your bacon!
  16. No doubt many have already seen this, maybe one or two have tried it.....
  17. Perhaps they could have made it a School punishment, rather than lines or detention miscreants had to go and clean loco with a toothbrush? Then again there would probably be a good number deliberately getting themselves into trouble......
  18. No picture now unfortunately, but 10 or so years ago I was working a train from Norwich back to Nottingham on a very windy evening. 50mph speed limit imposed on the ECML, we were trundling steadily along the down slow line between Peterborough and Grantham. Having already hit several bits of tree, none big enough to do any damage fortunately, driver had decided to travel more slowly in case there was something bigger lying in wait. Suddenly there was a full brake application followed by a bang and sounds of something being dragged under the train. Getting down to have a look, we found what looked like a giant top hat trapped under the front axle! Having taken a line block on the down fast as well as our line Kel, my driver, tried reversing the train to get this thing to come back out from under the unit (a 158) but it jammed on the front air dam and was only dragged backwards. The thing wasn't particularly heavy but certainly awkward so by careful positioning of the unit I was able to, just, drag it out sideways. Question now, of course, is what to do with it? If left where it was it would probably have blown back onto the lines causing further problems so we loaded it into the train to take out of harms way. It only just fitted through the door and NR staff were going to meet us at Grantham. I think it was some sort of large plastic planter, about 4ft in diameter and maybe 3ft tall. Last seen doing duty for storing something outside Eastcroft depot in Nottingham.
  19. Yes but you can see they were forerunners in design for early rail mounted coaches, so the natural progression is to present day rail coaches and carriages. Modern day buses, both double and single deck, are developments of original horse drawn buses and trams
  20. Don't frequent this thread very often but have a look at completed items occasionally. This looks very good and possibly unique and it has sold at the price asked but even so....... I'm aware of the seller's reputation by the way. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/373540358309?hash=item56f8bd88a5:g:jwoAAOSwkBVgdxyk#vi__app-cvip-panel
  21. Present day management in touch with the travelling public? I'm in the same situation as Gwiwer, asked questions to which I have no answer.
