  1. It sounds like it will be here eventually which is great but I wonder what the 'data' cut off date was before it was sent to the publisher? There's been quite a few disposals relatively recently including class 58s, 91s, 69 conversions etc., and I wonder if they made it into the book? Of course it would never be up to date as things are constantly changing.

  2. I've had this book on pre-order with Amazon for months. Last week they showed delivery due today, Monday 8th April, however I just received a cancellation of order from Amazon due to the unavailability of the book. It's still shown as available to order from Waterstones, WH Smith etc.

Does anyone know what is happening with this title?

    Bachmann vs Accurascale comparison.

Obviously my Bacchy 66200 is weathered so you can’t compare colour.  Exhaust ports are different sizes.

As Mick had already mentioned, the Accurascale silencer sits slightly higher.

For a nearly 20 year old tooling I think the Bachmann 66 stands up well against this 'new' offering. That's not to say the Accurascale version isn't excellent, and clearly has the jump, but highlights how relativley good the Bachmann one was for its day.

Im looking forward to these arriving and if any go spare I may be tempted by one for my MOD workings through Greenford. However as mentioned previously it would be great if Accurascale could get their hands on the warwell and add the end covers to the tooling suite for future runs! (Appreciate it was too late to be considered this time around!)

Can I ask what you mean by "end covers"?

    Is it this section?: image.png.a7cffc08c4c4122b855cf59b4c21f859.png

    What was this mod for?

Having purchased a few of these fantastic locos I’d really love to see more Romanian BR Blue examples along with any Blyth Cambois / Gateshead outbased locos. Wouldn’t it be great to see 56076 Blyth Power or any BR Blue or large logo examples. I just remember the good old days of driving up the A1 with my brother in my first car and the awe of excitement as we got to the depots in the North East, gone but never forgotten. Can’t wait for the second run. You really have delivered the ultimate Class 56 and it can only get better.

A second (or is it a third?) vote for 'Blyth Power' although I'd be happy with one in any of its guises; 076 BR Blue, 134 Large Logo or Trainload Coal.

Update for all with gear issues. It looks like after testing a fraction of the locos were packaged but not always correctly positioned on the cradle before screwing down, this pivots the bogie unduly under the pressure of the screws and appears to have popped the worm cover (part 31 below) off of the offending bogie causing this issue. It's an easy fix but one that requires in the first instance to take the body off and attempt to clip the cover back on though the access holes in the side of the chassis block (69 below). Whilst easy it can be fiddly and if it proves a problem the tower can be accessed by removing the circuit board above and clipping the cover back on. We can understand if you do not want to do that and instead prefer the retailer or ourselves to do the work but in the first instance doing the job yourself is the fastest route to resolve the issue.

Thanks! Just followed these instructions and now fixed. I used a small flat head screwdriver through the access hole to re-seat the worm cover. Before and after photos below.

Yeah I was thinking either drive shaft or gears and it definitely isn't going away. Glad I had another model running in the opposite direction to compare it too. This was the one that had twisted slightly on it guides during transit, not saying it caused the problem but can't have helped. I think the packing could be improved as there is a void around the actual when screwed to the mount.

Have exactly the same noisey running problem with my 56008 which too arrived with one bogie not sitting straight in the cradle although this could just be a coincidence.

Mine did this but it was just the bogie tower top becoming unclipped on one side. You don’t have to take it apart to push it to

Could you expand on how to fix this please? Really don't want to send this beautiful loco back unless really necessary especially as I doubt they could replace it as the sound version is sold out.

If you run both locos on the same address or have a system that doesn't support smart consisting. You need to adjust the CVs for Max Speed, Acceleration and Deceleration until the locos match. It's a case of trial and error in my experience.

I have two factory fitted sound Bachmann class 20s that were released a few months apart (Zimo decoders). Both were purchased new, are from the 35-xxx series and I haven't altered any CVs yet.

I want to run them as a prototypical pair (nose to nose) and assume I will need to change the CV3 to CV5 settings as advised above (as well as CV29 on one) but the CV4, deceleration, settings on them are currently different, 000 and 080 respectively, and the locomotive's stopping behaviours are therefore radically different. I've read that the default CV4 (and CV3) settings are determined by the loaded sound project. I'd be surprised if the sound projects in each were different?

What do I need to do in these circumstances? Still alter the CVs to match initially? I don't want the locos speed behaviours to become out of sync with their sound.

  9. Does anyone know when 37069 received its large numbers in BR blue? A trawl of Flickr pinpoints it to sometime after end May 1987 but by late October 1987.

It was repainted into triple grey at Doncaster Works after arriving late March 1988 making the operational timeframe of this loco in the Bachmann released livery relatively short.

PS not getting at you personally @WILLIAM, it's just you're an example here of the conundrum for manufacturers when things get difficult to reproduce.

I understand your general point but it is a very niche thing to have working spotlights on a model loco that would only be turned on to inspect tunnels and structures on the real thing. The class 20 lighting issues were more mainstream IMHO.

From the photos at the very least it’s being done in late 2000 onwards condition with wing mirrors.   Assuming they are not changing this element of the tooling (I don’t see why they would) these plug into holes in the body side and make backdating a real pain even if the livery is “standard” ews.

I was after an 'early' EWS 66 too until I found this picture of 66171 I took at Valley back in July 2006. Didn't realise they were receiving wing mirrors as early as this.
