  1. I'd not expect Bachmann to touch it, more likely Hornby as they could perhaps use some of the work for the 71, especially in terms of chassis (though think there are differences in detail, the mechanicals would be fine to be the same). But easiest route atm is a Hornby/DJM 71 + SF 74 body and other details.
  2. Congratulations Gareth. Looking forward to seeing what the future brings. I'm sure with your knowledge and enthusiasm we will be in for some great news in the future.
  3. Iirc, the state of the track work played a part in the decision too. The inherited lbscr and secr lines were in places built on the cheap, especially the ser iirc
  4. It was noticeable that people were still turning up today at around 2pm. Numbers potentially higher than predicted too for the Sunday, which is good news. The team worked very hard to get a show that takes 12 months of hard work together in around 4 month, so should be congratulated on such a good show (though it appeared some traders were doing very little trade, but I think that is something more and more becoming a factor at shows in general as peoples available money in real terms has reduced over the years (along with price rises of course)). The shorter time to organise the show also had an impact on the ability to advertise this year, but the show felt pretty busy both days to me. The layout selection this year was excellent, with a good selection across sectors of the d&e hobby and items to please most people with some layouts being entertaining and others inspiring and so on (not to say some were not both of course). If there is no policy against mankinis then there should be!!
  5. Great choice. So many great new announcements recently, my bank account can't keep up with 'em! thankfully some are outside my area/interest. But these would be a nice addition to the stock.
  6. Interesting and useful findings Mike. I've acquired a couple of them, though the ones I've ended up with I think would be more suited to N gauge as they're tiny! (not a major issue really as I have plans at some point for narrow gauge).
  7. Will swing by and discuss a pre-order 92 with you I think funds depending.
  8. Sounds like a sensible thing to do, avoids recycling costs on Porterbrook part, and potentially some local communities could benefit. Perhaps small councils should take a few and convert into community areas or libraries etc?
  9. Too big for the tunnels. 507/508s might go to IOW in place of the '38 stock, but equally redundant LU stock might too to avoid costs of rebuilding tunnels etc.
  10. I was referring to garages and rest stops, services etc rather than domestic. Overnight charging is probably fine for most people to some extent. On street parking is a potential problem, though no reason that points can't be installed along the roadside I guess. But it is a matter of costs and is unlikely to be funded by a government hell bent on austerity.
  11. Looking forward to another great show. The Showcase team have worked very hard on what I fully expect to be another great weekend. Looking forward to it. Phil, thanks for posting the interview. Much appreciated.
  12. Some electric cars already have the range to get most of the way from London to Edinburgh, with it improving all the time. Fast charging can already recharge some cars in less than 45 minutes to mostly full battery charge, perfectly fine to stop once on the way for toilet/cuppa/food whilst it charges. Once the infrastructure starts to catch up it with become more viable. Besides, by 2040 you won't be able to buy anything not electric/hybrid/hydrogen anyway.
  13. From September it gets more crowded as GNWR Euston-Blackpool services using 91s+Mk4s start.
  14. There are areas where there are 4 rails, but nothing to do with LU, but to do with earth leakage protection. Earth leakage can corrode pipes etc, so is reduced as much as possible as a result. When the LSWR first introduced their 3rd rail system, the National Physics Laboratory complained about such leakages, and modifications were needed. The Royal Mail made similar claims later in a different area iirc.
  15. I've been a member of a few clubs over the years. The one nearest to where I live I had to discount on grounds of accessibility (though they were a friendly bunch). Currently get along sporadically to the Leamington club, though haven't been very involved with any layouts there as most are either out of my scale interest or pretty much finished, so i'll plod on slowly with my own stuff. I tend to go along with Natalie so we can share the costs/driving etc. Recently joined the Warley club too, as it is near enough to warrant it and I tend to go to their show every year anyway. Not been much there as yet, but seemed friendly and welcoming enough thus far.
  16. Impressive modelling. It just needs the stove to be glowing and a cat to be curled up in front of it.
  17. Some issues I skip, I will probably skip the preserved diesels one. Might pick up the 68/88 one as they look interesting (even if too modern for my modelling at this time). There are a number of classes they could do updates on since the last issues on them (37s, 47s and HSTs for instance). But I'd prefer if they went back to more service stock and similar items, as those are interesting. The SR/BR(S) EMUs ones could have been better spread out more I felt.
  18. Growing up, for model railway items it was usually a small shop in Bexley, for model aircraft kits it was usually a show in Bexleyheath or sometimes the one in Welling (a short walk for a teenager).
  19. Gumtree is owned by eBay iirc
  20. Always look forward to this show. Looking forward to this years, hotel room booked.
  21. Just read through the thread from the beginning. Some fantastic modelling and useful information within. Great stuff. Whilst my current BR(S) layout plans are set in '59-'62 (primarily as I have a pair of SLW Class 24s in the correct condition for this period), it is being developed with the possibility to cover not only different eras (technically 1919-1999 roughly, some with more license than others), but location too (Western, Eastern and Central areas of the southern, and with some license Merseyside and Tyneside), allowing a large range of stock options after the '59'62 period is dealt with. I would very much like to cover the final days of the Southern and first days of the Southern Region at some point. For now it is 33s, 24s and lots of EMUs of different types (most cut-n-shut using replica parts initially), and a small amount of steam (Q1, Hs, and others ). I have some Wills/SEF kits to attempt at some point, so your progress with the Nu-Cast model and others is interesting (Dave of SEF jointly with Branchlines is re-introducing the Nu-Cast range). Look forward to future updates.
  22. could they be akin to running lights to make them more visible from different angles?
  23. The replica chassis is probably the best bet imo. Gareth of Replica has done a lot of work on fitting it into different units and locos and the body intrustion can be cut down by paring down the chassis a bit and using a false floor. Good price, readily available and OO with DCC.
  24. The Tyneside luggage van looks good, I will bookmark it for a future look at as it could well prove useful (if a bit early at present for the planned timeline).
  25. Arrived with little issue with traffic etc, thankfully m1 was fairly quiet aside from the roadworks areas. Grabbed goody bag from the brm stand (part of the 5 for £5 offer, which gave a free ticket). Looking forward to a good show. Been a few years since last came here, the free ticket offer certainly helped make it a more viable option.
