Is the price £7.99 per bogie or per pair?  I think it’s the former but I want to check before ordering as I don’t want to purchase twice as many as I need.!

That's the price per bogie.  Not per pair.

I blagged four of the Fishbelly type for my B-set project as soon as I was aware that they were available.
They are very nice and great vale for the money IMHO.  Arrived in the post PDQ too. :-)

The rerun could have been as 20001 instead!

"Surely" a number change wouldn't have slowed production down?

No.  Different tooling and decoration would be required to do 20001 instead of 20002.  At no point in time were 20001 and 20002 exactly the same!  So they've saved a lot of time by "just hitting repeat" on their original BR(S) green 20002.  it sold out on pre-order, so there's clearly more demand than supply.  I was lucky and blagged one the first time around but had I missed out I'd be greteful for this opportunity.

  3. As previously discussed, a shunting locomotive should display a red and white light at both ends.  Unfortunately, Heljan have fitted this locomotive with directional lighting, so the lights are only illuminated at the “front” end and not both ends.  Has anybody any experience of modifying the wiring in these locos so that both ends are lit when the power is applied and not just the front?

For the avoidance of doubt, I use old school analogue DC and not any kind of DCC digital witchcraft.
    Cheers,
    Bob.

  4. As much as I would love to continue to support Warley MRC through their exhibition, the chosen date this yearclashes with the unmissable Furness Model Railway Club exhibition.  So, as the "dragons" say, I'm out!

Now, the previous weekend is the former Wigan show weekend and largely free from clashes IFAIK.

  5. I'll throw in my expectations as an exhibitor.  This is verbaitim from my layout information sheets.

"Transport:  2 Private Cars.  No van hire but fuel expenses, tolls, ULEZ and congestion charges will be required.

Travelling:  Distance no object, but overnight accommodation is required for journeys exceeding much more than an hour."

Although "accomodation" doesn't specifically include "breakfast", in the UK context one can safely assume that "acccomodation" will be read as "bed and breakfast".

there are safety vaove and injectors but they are much higher functions. One day I may remap the functions. The short list on the layout is for the easier and more useful sounds. Having the full lists just delays trains being run as operators will spend time reading the list.

Currently I have LYN on the program track upping the volume as I had reduced it but it was a bit too quiet at the show yesterday. The loco performed faultesly at the show.

Very good show but the first couple of hours we had quite a few issues with the locos hat have had new pony wheels fitted and he new kit built coaches binding on the fiddleyard curves. Also most of us were making mistakes . Numerous times I derailed trains after forgetting to switch the turnouts. By the afternoon the layout was running very smoothly, probably the best ever after tweaking the various locos and coaches.

The new pony wheels are actually slightly wider than the factory fitted ones, so in the fiddleyard curves they were binding on the outside frame. I filed down each wheel which made a big difference and have done more work on them today. These new wheels did fix the occasional derailing issues so now they should be fine when next tested on the layout.

The coaches had a bit more of the floor ground out so that the bogie wheels dont bind when in the curves.

Next show is East Grinstead in March and Taunton in October has been confirmed.

It's just that I switch on the blower while the train is waiting in the platform, like what I've heard real engine drivers do.  So if you could map it to F8 on kettle 762 that would be most helpful. :-)

Only question I have is that on DC, irrespective of the direction, all four marker lights, red as well as white seem to be illuminated.

    Rob,
This is entirely correct.  A locomotive engaged in shunting should show a red light and white light at both ends.  A through back to the days of oil lamps when it was impractical to change the lamps every time the shunting locomotive changed direction.
If you altered this you'd be introducing an error!

The BR green versions MR511/512 are clearly illustrated on the web site and the magazine ads, with correct grey cab roof.

On the class 12s the roofs were pinted black, not green / grey.

Photo of preserved loco as I can't find an original colour pic online.

Seems the MR page has been updated to include the EP of the Class 12, along with artwork and changes to the numbers on said models. (For example, the preserved 15224 is now in plain green, not green w/wasp stripes) EDIT: Could have just used a picture 15224, but had 15221 as the text.

The BR green examples are still shown with erroneous green roofs.  They should be black.  I shall not be ordering one until I've seen it in the correct colour scheme.

I recall one of the recent Model Rail magazines including a revised list of Class 12's.

They removed the BR Green Weathered livery and altered the numbers.
I'm not 100% on it but I believe the Class 12's numbers and liveries are now as such:
BR Black Early Crest No.15220 (15223 on website)
BR Green Early Crest No.15224 (Formerly BR Black No.15235)
BR Green Late Crest Wasp Stripes No.15221 (15224 on website)
    BR Blue Wasp Stripes No.15212
& Tilston Light Blue Wasp Stripes No.15231
    Photo for reference:

AFAIK the middle one and possibly also the second one should have a black roof to both the cab and bonnet.  i.e. not grey and geen respectively as shown in the illustration above.

Coaches is my priority for now - more BR(S) green Bulleids as 3-sets and the loose BCK...

Ditto.  Also the 5-set that Bachmann did in blood and custard would be more than welcome here in BR(S) green.

Or putting it another way - 'We are doing what some faceless (un)Civil Servant has told us to do but I'm not allowed to say that.'

Let's be clear about this and not gas light ourselves.  Civil servants do what politicians decide.  The evil hand of the DfT is guided by the Secretary of State and Ministers.  The Civil Servants are doing what some clueless politician above them has already decided they have to do.  Blame lies with The Government, not the people who work for it.  This move is clearly intended to increase revenue and "get better value for the taxpayer" and yes, the ToCs are not allowed to say so.  But please don't blame civil servants.

  13. As a rule of thumb, my typical purchase of a DMU, DEMU or EMU of interest is two or three.

Having said that, by example, "two" of the 4CIG/4BIG familly would be four 4CIGs and two 4BIGs, as that is two complete trains worth!  Ditto 4COR/4RES.
Likewise, I'd buy a 4SUB or 4EPB in pairs to make a complete eight car set.
I'm not adverse to renumbering sets in order to do this BTW.  I have a fleet of renumbered 2BILs and 2HALs made by you know who. ;-)
Speaking of which, how about a "tin HAL"?  A low hanging fruit for the Margate posse that they don't seem to want to pick. :-(

    Hope that helps.

Not my era - but a 4SUB ( hint, hint ) would roughly equate in size to a Class 31 plus three Mk1s ...... say £360 list DC !!?!

I'd bee in for a couple of 4SUBs too.  This suggestion raises a point that manufacturers may or may not find significant.  Essently, a 4SUB only requires two vehicles to be tooled.  The two DMBS and two TS vehicles are the same.  This is by no means unusual, at least for BR(S) and SR third rail units.  A 4CIG, 4BIG and COR family need three tools each four coach set, not Four.  A 4EPB needs only two sets of tools and so on.
By example, three toools, DMBS, TS and DTS enables both 2EPB and 4EPB to be produced.  Add a DTC to the tooling suite and you also have a 2HAP.  Add a "thumper" motor coach and you have a 3H.
I'm not familiar with the BR A/C overhead units, but I'd imagine much the same kind of tooling the whole family would be achievable?
