  1. Have a butcher's at http://www.gwr.org.uk/b-set-notes.html
  2. Here's the original caption; "With no less than four diesel brake tenders coupled behind the loco, ED No. 73115 pushes back the Chessington coal empties into Wimbledon West Yard on 25 July 1974. When you think, propelling moves such as this, across the down main, down slow, up and down sutton to reach the yard were quite common those days, today, well, it just would never happen!"
  3. It is indeed Wimbledon. Original caption says that the train being reversed into the yard.
  4. Difficult to tell. Original image is here. https://www.dawlishtrains.com/uploads/7/2/2/3/7223531/4144203_orig.jpg Maybe you can zoom in a bit more on it?
  5. Want to give your entire collection of Diesel Brake Tenders a run together? No promblem.
  6. I just found this online. A class 73 ED at Wimbledon yard with no less than 4 brake tenders.
  7. I have just collected the two "unweathered" green Slim Jims from local model shop, Girmy TImes in Warrington. They look just as per the published images, with all the pipework on the ends and whatnot (except vacuum exhausters) already fitted. According to the instruction booklet, the goody pack includes a spare set of pipes and vacuum exhausters that can be added to the bogies. Also included are snow ploughs and NRN radio pods for the later era models. The test running was superb, smooth and quiet straight out of the box, pulling away at nice low setting on the controller (analogue only here at Chateau Bob). Hope that helps.
  8. In the words of Sir Tom Jones, it's not unusual. I know plenty of modellers who build layouts specifically for exhibition who've never built a layout for use only at home. That includes myself. At the moment there are four exhibition layouts packed-up for storage in my junk room, all of which are too large to set-up at home!
  9. Well, they were around for something like fifteen years, which would seem to indicate that they were of some benefit.
  10. I couldn't believe it when I got the e-mither from Hornby. "Big announcement" it said. Crashing dissapointment. In what alternate reality would I possibly be interested in such pointless tat? Gawd struth! Manufacturers keep telling us that the endless delays in producing new models are in part down to the sparsity of production slots in China. How about using these valuable production slots to make models we modellers actually want, like the BR Standard Mickey Mice that were announced many years ago Mr Hornby, rather than souvenir shop tat?
  11. Again, I plead not guilty M'Lud. I've finally found a picture of Mr and Mrs Singh waiting for a train at Severn D'Wharves.
  12. Correct, although there is pedestrian access to Cornbrook Metrolink, it's really for pedestrian egress, i.e. the fire escape! I'm not aware if the fire escape doors can be opened from the outside to get in, so to speak.
  13. From the latest Rapido UK newsletter, No. 30. "We have had such a blast bringing The Titfield Thunderbolt to you, and love to hear how excited everyone has been about the models of such an iconic film. It got us thinking… What other licensed products could we do? Would people be interested in other one-off licensable projects such as the Railway Children or Great St Trinians or even Back to the Future?" I'll start the froth. Great St Trinians train robery almost do-able, but along with the Wickhams trolly, J94, BR MkI suburbans etc. that are available RTR, we need a pukka 3-car thumper. So, how about a pukka 3-car thumper then Rapido? Pretty please...
  14. ...and be aware that if "water" started running accross the windows of your compartment when it wasn't raining that you needed to shut the droplight on that side PDQ!
  15. I plead not guilty M'Lud. My busses on the bridge have a driver, conductor and punters in them. 😉
  16. "... station lamps on in daylight." Back in the 80s, before the Elmers End to Sanderstead line was closed, it only opperated in the rush hours. Selsdon station was still lit by gas! So one day in the autum the gas lights were lit and one day the folllowing spring they were turned off, as the station was only open in dark in the winter and during daylight in the summer and the station was unstaffed. So the lights were on all winter.
  17. Another vote for some new and improved Thompson BGs please Bachmann.
  18. But is it an accurate model of the iconic Mr Beans Mini and does it have detail, detail, detail? 😉
  19. When trawling eBay, or anywhere else on the interweb, for 'Bulleid', don't forget to also search for 'Bullied'. People are so used to the "i before e, except after c" thing that it is very often misspelled. Sciene has proved that it's "i befor e except after c and your weird beige foreign neighbour, Keith Bulleid." ;-)
  20. Typo! It's a 3D set. Except it's a 2D set. There's no centre car. HTH.
