  1. Compared to some things people get up to in hotels, this one's a treat...
  2. If anyone can handle a challenge, it is certainly you, Callum. Best of luck and will be following with interest. I only wish we had these wrapping paper boxes readily available here in the States. Jeff
  3. This is beautiful! Is the backscene stock or something you made from photos?
  4. Your storage boxes are brilliant. Inexpensive, compact and they get the job done. Look much more efficient than the ones sold here in the states that are unwieldy and expensive.
  5. I asked an artist friend a while back about a dark sky and he suggested Payne's Grey as a possibility... Jeff
  6. Those buildings are wonderful...they'll look great when finished.
  7. I've picked up strings of LED lights at the dollar store that run on 2 AA batteries (3V) and there's enough lights on them for a small town. Jeff
  8. This is very interesting and well done! I want to do a micro in American 2 rail O Scale and the space gets eaten up by the points. I like the "no points" concept. Jeff
  9. Where I live, they tore down an old linoleum plant to build a complex of flats. The plant was rail served; they came in, tore up the sidings and left one section of track with a gondola marooned on it. It sat there for more than a year before it disappeared.
  10. Off to a fantastic start! I like the Knagglig boxes for the same reasons. The Metcalf building is quite sharp looking. Jeff
  11. I wish those APA boxes would make a comeback...have an O scale idea I think they'd be great for... Jeff
  12. To get that gritty western ground cover look, I've started with a light coat of earth tone acrylic paint (they sell small bottles for around a dollar here in the US - latex will work fine as well), let that dry then take your grout, mix it in with more paint to texture it and apply.
  13. Was in the dollar store the other day and found these...simple for lighting up buildings with battery-powered LED lights.
  14. Don't have any experience building on cardboard but I'd say another layer of cardboard on whichever will be the bottom surface would probably be a good thing...support, an additional layer to secure track, etc.
  15. Hello friends, Haven't been a slacking...just a bit busy. So, I was never happy with that large block of buildings because it blocked the view. So urban renewal has visited Clifftown. I built two buildings, the small bar on the left is a Willmodels resin kit, Tony's Tires was a gift given by Jeff Springer of Custom Model Railroads in Baltimore, the building on the right is a not so high quality 3D print I got from China (they look like DPM knockoffs but for $5, they do the job). On the back side, the far building is another Chinese 3D building...I envision it as a police station. The closer building is assembled from DPM wall sections (I normally loathe DPM N Scale stuff because the windows are set into the walls and a pain to paint. The separate wall sections have separate windows which make it easier to paint and detail. I might replace the police station with a better building...the fun of the small layout is being able to change a scene around with little fuss.
  16. I think a bridge would be an excellent idea vs. a tunnel. Probably not best if your points aren't out in the open. Interesting track plan. Should be fun to operate.
  17. Thank you...forgot to mention I was looking for O Scale, hence the high rail height numbers but I see Peco has a range in O as well...
  18. I'm guessing it's a result of the 3 rail Lionel-type track to a 2 rail scale track. It would simulate some seriously heavy rail. Thanks ever so much for the information.
  19. Great job so far! What size rail are you using and who makes the points? We don't have much in the way of ready to run turnouts here in the US that aren't large size (Code 148) and eat up space.
  20. I watched your latest video today...outstanding job. The working crane to load and unload adds a lot of operating value. Learning to weather your stock is a fun process. Pick up a few cars on the cheap somewhere, look at the many tutorials out there and have a go before you move on to your more expensive stock.
