  1. I remember the name because on one occasion my nan was up a ladder painting the bathroom wall and the Rainbow men where in the street. Us children where really excited and rushed in to tell her; “Nain, nain, the rainbow man is here!!” . She fell off the ladder and into the bath. ( I’m laughing at the memory as I write this, luckily she wasn’t hurt) I won’t repeat what she said the Rainbow man could go and do.
  2. It was that sort of thing
  3. Chatting with my neighbour this morning and started talking about old products like Esso Blue and I mentioned The Rainbow Men who, I thought, came round offering a prize if you answered a question. He couldn’t remember them and I can’t find anything on the ‘net. Did they really exist? Anyone else remember them? Thanks
  4. Thanks it’s more broken pieces sadly, it’s also the screw that hold the plastic that the brush spindle goes in so needs to be secure but easily removable. Really poor design I think. The brush assembley has to be removed for cleaning quite often but isn’t designed to be removed easily. Regards
  5. I have a vax carpet washer and a piece of plastic has broken off. The problem is that the piece of plastic that has broken has an screw thread tapped in it. I think there is a sort of repair mastic that I can apply and then re-tap but I can't find anything like that. Can anybody help with a name, please? Thanks
  6. Well, a surprise happy ending! Ebay today informed me that I was not at fault and the case was now closed! They did also say that ebay would refund the buyer, which I don’t really understand, but hey-ho, all’s well that ends well. I have also blocked the “buyer” as advised.
  7. Well yes, exactly. It was a printed label too, not just hand written. I didn't know I could block bidders, thanks for the heads up
  8. I thought the same about the alternative address, I also thought the same about sending him a refund just to get him off my back, but then I thought that maybe his returning the camera would then make it unsolicited goods and he would have to arrange collection at his own expense (but then he might claim that the camera was damaged etc) . I also wondered what was to stop him buying again and me having to go through the same nonsense. I do think that eBay will more than likely tell me to either resend (but who will pay the postage) or refund, but so far they have not made any decision
  9. Fortunately in this case it was a photo of the open door clearly shewing the adjacent sign with the address of the property.
  10. I sold a camera on ebay and sent it via evri to the address guven by ebay, I paid extra to get it signed for just for my own piece of mind. I received a photo from evri showing a photo of the delivery address and a message saying they had been told to return to sender. The next day I had another photo where the courier had replaced the delivery label with one showing the address of the house next door and a message to say they would reattempt delivery in two days. Two days later another message to say they had been instructed to return to sender. I did receive the (unopened) package and, the same day, a message via ebay saying that the parcel had been received by someone and it wasn’t him. I told him that I had a photo showing the attempted deliveries and that I did not accept returns. I asked him if he would pay the extra postage for me to resend and at first he refused, then agreed, but he wanted it sent to another address. I refused and said I would let ebay sort it out. He asked me to clarify if I had the camera and if I was refusing to send it because he had “accidentally” returned it. I didn’t reply and he raised a case with eBay who messaged me ten days ago to say that they would sort it out within 48 hours. I suspect a scam but can’t work out how it is being done! Any thoughts?
  11. The electrician I mentioned in my original post did say that they should all be from a common manufacturer. The Schneider was fitted by the people that installed the charger for my phev, so I can understand why that would be different, but I assume that the others were put in when the box was installed.
  12. Yes, that’s what I thought. Well, thanks both for confirming my suspicions.
  13. I want to say that I have no intention of trying this myself. We had some extra 13 amp sockets put in our kitchen, and when the electrician had gone I noticed that the fridge wasn't working so I checked the breaker thinking that he might have left it "off". It was on, so I called him back. He checked the breaker (newlec VB32) and said it was faulty and would need replacing. The trouble, he went on to say, was that "you can't get those breakers any more and you will need a new consumer unit and breakers, and you should really fit breakers that have rcd's in-built, and they can cost three times more than the standard type" I have looked on the internet and found VB32 breakers available, and we had also had a breaker installed as part of our hybrid car charging pod, so I wondered if what he says is true, or is he just trying to sell me stuff I don't really need? Your thoughts please Tony
  14. I have been given about 20 lengths of peco track, the only identification number I can see is “DR 2010”. Would this be code 100? Thanks
  15. I have been guilty of that, I have been taken to task over it too!
  16. Bought these in Wales recently, haven't tried Blodwen's yet, but of the rest the Penlon Cardi Bay is my favourite, so I ordered 12 more bottles on line, came with two days too.
  17. Oops! Sorry Phil, for some reason I thought that you were “old udders” and when I checked I saw that you were Phil - young Phil I should say!, and corrected it, but it appears I hadn’t deleted the “old” bit! My apologies, no offence intended!
  18. Oh good, perhaps you’d be kind enough to post the results here?
  19. Plastic, and the I believe that the paint was factory applied so I assume enamel (the figures were given to me by someone having a clear-out) Yes, it would be okay to paint over but I hadn’t thought if it until old Phil suggested it. It’s all on hold at the moment anyway because fences (outside) need painting and borders need weeding!
  20. Thanks Phil, I will take your advice and paint over the bright glossy colours. As you say, they are not finely detailed and are almost hidden on the layout.
  21. I would like to repaint the two figures in the photo, I just wanted to check that soaking in Dettol was safe and the best method to employ. If not, what would be the safest and best method? Thanks.
  22. That’s what I said to one of the people at the display in Guyhirn village hall, he just agreed with me. The night workings have caused a stir among the village residents at Ring’s End though...
