  1. I often wondered what had happened to the Matlock Bath 0 gauge layout. I used to visit and stare in awe in my younger days. I guess that there was no hope of reinstating it once the woodworm had taken up residence! Malcolm
  2. Hi David, there is a very atmospheric photo in "The Cromford & High Peak Railway" by John Marshall p58, of the inside of Cromford workshop on the C&HP (complete with Billy Hallowes and his wooden leg!) which could be a good source of inspiration. Malcolm
  3. The vent pipe would be installed as near as possible to the head of the drain run. If there were no bathroom or toilet in the vicinity then there would be no connection to the vent. Malcolm
  4. Well, the day has arrived and much hard work has been undertaken by members and exhibitors in setting up yesterday afternoon. I know that we still have much to do this morning but all is looking well for a great day. Come and see what a great show we have laid out for you! Look forward to seeing you there. Malcolm Hine Exhibition Manager
  5. Hello Gilbert, further to the earlier discussion regarding the multi-storey car park, I have been racking my brains and I believe it was built in 1992-3. I actually worked on that job as site engineer so I ought to be more definite but age is taking it's toll! I have admired your layout ever since I started looking at RMweb. When I came across it I spent many happy hours reading the thread from start to finish and that was when it was about 250 posts! Great work and brilliant photo's. Regards, Malcolm.
  6. Hi Jonathan I built the F5 some years ago (and have another in the pile!) and eventually realised that it would not negotiate anything less than 8ft radius as designed! I cut the main frames just ahead of the front drivers and cut and carved them to suit a pony truck arrangement for the front axle. It ran very nicely and stayed on the track! Regards Malcolm
  7. I built an Oldbury Models kit of this loco a few years ago which involved a lot of very enjoyable research including crawling all over 41708 and taking a lot of photo's. With reference to your query about the toolbox, the Midland era loco's were fitted with a toolbox between the frames at the rear (there is a good photo in Midland Locomotives volume 3, p 91 Wild Swan. The LMS/BR period locos had the toolbox relocated to the front nearside footplate, where they often seem to have received damage.
  8. I am very pleased that you enjoyed your day and the layout looked superb. Best wishes from the Ely Club. Kind regards Malcolm
  9. Well, one day to go! I'm off down to the club room this morning to pack-up Fullers Wharf ready for the move to the venue. I may be a bit late arriving at the college as I have to attend a hospital appointment mid-afternoon but rest assured the team will take care of things until I get there! If you are planning to set up this afternoon then please do not arrive before 4.30pm as we are not allowed access until the students have vacated the premises. Looking forward to a good show! ATB Malcolm
  10. Latest News! It looks as though we may have another specialist trade stand coming! I will post more details soon. Malcolm Hine Exhibition Manager

  13. Thank you for the kind words, we are always trying to make our exhibition better and it's good to get some positive feedback. I am now going to retire to a darkened room and start planning next years extravaganza! Malcolm
  14. I have sent the finalised floor plans to the committee members so there are no excuses for not getting the stands in the right place!
  15. Hi George, I will definitely take you up on that. I'll be in touch. Regards Malcolm
  16. Well it would be a bit much expecting to do 2 exhibitions in 2 days!
  17. A late change to the list of traders. After a quick blast down the A1 to Welwyn on my trusty Triumph Trident I can announce that Kevin's Model Railways will be taking on the mantle of second-hand trader as Milnsbridge Models are unable to grace us with their presence for the first time in more years than I care to remember. As you may imagine I was somewhat concerned at the loss of one of our main traders but I hope that this is going to prove a fruitful relationship - welcome Kevin! Regards Malcolm
  18. Well spotted that man! Yes its at the City of Ely Community College, Downham Road, Ely CB6 2SH. The opening times are 10.30am to 4.30pm. Apparently some satnavs will send you to the rugby club on the other side of the A10 Ely bypass so the best advice I can give is to follow our signs when you are approaching Ely. I hope you can make it and have an enjoyable day. Regards Malcolm

  21. El Presidente has gone to sit in a dark corner until the tremors pass!
  22. OK. I am happy to send it by whatever means suits you. As you may gather I am not sure how to use this forum for anything other than reading posts. Please advise. Regards Malcolm
  23. Hello George, I built an MTK 7mm scale kit of the Q1 a few years ago (it would have been easier to scratch-build!) and I got a copy of the drawing in MORRILL Jan 1995 which I blew up to 7mm scale. you are quite welcome to a copy if you like. I also strongly recommend you track down a copy of John Scott Morgan's "The Story of the Q1's" published by KRB Publications ISBN0-9544859-1-2 which is full of useful details and photo's of every class member. Good to see you have returned to O gauge. Regards Malcolm
