The picture of the Monifieth Model Groups static model is from the early stages of the build. I was lucky enough recently to visit and see its progress and was well impressed at its detail of the area. Would be delighted if anyone had any photos from the Dundee to Forfar(either open or closed) as i lived close to the line at the Dundee end in the early/mid 70's when a lot of the trackbed/cuttings/embankments/bridges were still intact.

Would be a great addition as very interested in The Strathmore Route and its branches. I lived close to the Dundee to Forfar line which is now disappearing fast under houses and roads.Would have been a handy commuter link if it still existed today?? The Monifieth Model group have a Model of The Dundee to Forfar direct line stations from Dundee East to Forfar which will hopefully go on show soon.

For me its anytime I return to Dundee and see the wasteland that was the freight yards,diesel depot,signal boxes and general sidings/buildings that have all been swept away. Tay Bridge Station itself instead of being surrounded by a bustling railway scene is now an island in a sea of roads and it is now really quiet compared to my youth where there was a constant Sulzer sound under the roof!. Also the remnants of Camperdown Jct,The removal of Broughty Ferry signalbox from its original location and the rapidly disappearing parts of the former Dundee to Forfar line really stir up sad feelings!

Looking forward to the N gauge version of one of these as judging by the "mock up" pictures it looks quite a tidy loco! Wonder if it will arrive before either Farish or Dapol release a bog standard DRS livery 66 for my intermodal???

Yes,Dummy 26/27's would make perfect sense and im sure Dapol will oblige.Pity there is still no word on dummy 20's however ;o(

Got my BR Blue one last week.A wee beauty!!!Will need to start saving for the weathered disc one!!....plus the 27,Blue HST etc etc etc GULP!!!!

I will second that! As Stu says.... the 20's mostly ran in pairs so it would be great if N gaugers could influence Farish into producing a non powered partner.

Thanks Ben for the prompt and courteous response.As i live hundred of miles away i can but hope that some other like minded Diesel N gaugers at the show can encourage Bachmann/Farish to at least consider this option as the body work on these new versions is brilliant compared to the Poole version.Heres hoping that other N gaugers agree and mention it. regards.

Stunning!! I was only going to get the domino headcode 20 but after seeing the disc headcode version......i will have to get the two BR Blue ones!!!! Still think it would be a worthwhile venture for someone like the NGS in conjunction with Farish to produce a dummy loco so you can run them in pairs!!??? Brilliant model- well done Farish/Bachmann!!

The picture at Camperdown Jct near brought tears to the eyes!!! I remember the dock tracks and the shunters plus all the industry down there. Camperdown Jct signalbox was a brilliant box and i was gutted when it was reduced to a pile of bricks in the 1985 destruction of the Dundee railway area!!Even the tower block to the right of the photo is now gone!!!More photos please! ;o)

Well Dave as an N gauger.... im delighted with programme of new products from Dapol. especially the semaphores so please dont get disheartened.I hope that you progress your range and im sure they will get better and better.I can also say that about Farish as their Locos,coaches and wagons are quite frankly marvellous(eg The new 20)

No personal need for a 56 but wow!!!........Might have to have a rethink!!!....Large Logo or EWS now poses a serious question for me! ;oD

Just seen the painted sample in this months Rail Express.........................One word .........Fantastic!!!!!!!! Relegates the 27 into 2nd place for my most wanted model!!! Looks a quality product! Well done Farish!

My 1st close up encounter with The Deltics was when id heard about their appearances at Dundee Tay Bridge station around about 2 pm when the local DMU going the opposite way arrived.One day of the summer holidays i went and boarded the local class 101 dmu at Balmossie Halt into Dundee. Half way through Dock St tunnel you could feel a vibration and a buzz in the air and as the unit squealed past the Restricted clearance semaphores and Dundee East signalbox i glimpsed this gigantic yellow nose with white cab windows on the opposite line!.I jumped off the unit and bolted towards platform 4!The whole building was shaking and dozens of people(not just enthusiasts) were admiring this monster.The driver let me see the cab from the open door while enthusiasts "brass rubbed" the nameplate!The guards whistle blew and the steady roar got louder and louder as twin plumes of exhaust crashed against the tunnel.The loco was PINZA and that was it- i was hooked!! The rest of holiday i spent many a day at the end of platform 4 hoping for another Deltic and thankfully saw many of them ! This memory is equalled by getting to "cab a Deltic" at Dundee and getting to sit with the driver for ages as it awaited its 9am departure time Other memories that stick out is seeing 55 002 in green power through Broughty Ferry and 55 008 roaring loudly through the same location looking really mean with its domino headcode!!.Wonderful memories !!! ps Tay Bridge- i used to go to Monifieth High in 1981 and also used to listen out for any Deltics heading north!!!

MMMM!! Maybe we wont have to wait so long for different combinations after all if initial sales are anything to go by!!! Well done Dapol! Just dont forget us N Gaugers!!!

I imagine it will take a while but i will wait until bracket signals & double arm signals are available in N Gauge before i rip up my Colour Lights.Still great to have RTR signals in N gauge- at last!!!!

I take it that Dapol's "detailing pack" that you can buy separate has identical snowploughs that will allow ploughs to be fitted at both ends if desired?

Totally agree with all you say Matt. Im a bity gutted at A...My lack of skill detailing the model and B...That the model's tooling did not show the same sort of forethought that the Farish 24 did by having holes for the discs to be fitted into.I hope that Dapol can look into the snowplough issue in regards to the up and coming class 27.I will stress however that im over the moon that at last we have a RTR Class 26 and hopefully soon a Class 27.However makes me even more anxious that Farish do produce a new Class 40 as their attention to detailing seem more well thought out.(IMO)

Hi Matt,the wee bag contained 1 set of ploughs (coloured black sadly) Any idea how you are meant to fit them as i was scared that i might do further damage to the model ?

Fitted the discs today(drilled holes in them) and damaged a bit of the loco paintwork then went onto add the plough but gave up as could not see how it attaches to the loco as the bogie sticks too far out.Would help if there was some instruction!!Then finally the pipework- gave up on that as well. Lovely model but the Farish 24 was a doodle to detail compared to this and it had clear instructions included. Ran it today and the lights from the open discs are barely visable ;o(

This has dampened my delight a wee bit as i cant believe the discs dont have holes in them and im concerned that the snowploughs arent there either as advertised.Still looks a great model though.I take it Farish 24 discs could be used to compensate?Hopefully ive enough in my spares box!

Oh yes.....Class 26..BR Blue with headcodes and now ploughs?...gets better & better. Dare i ask if the upcoming 27's will also have ploughs?? ;o)

Thanks Dave for your prompt response.Thats great as ive had difficulty in obtaining Dapol Items previously.Also Sorry..... i know Colour Lights are proper signals as well and i like them too but i preferred my Local area (Especially Dundee)when it had the semaphores and im delighted that now we can get working ones in N Gauge to recreate the past.

Great addition to N Gauge-Delighted!! Only concern is that Dapol make enough of each design to go round and for a long period as it will take me a while to replace my Colour lights with proper Railway signals.Well done Dapol!

With this debate about quality and price.. Im waiting for a updated class 40(all nose ends) and class 55 (all headcodes) and in doing so will expect to pay that little bit extra for the improved detail whenever Farish (or Dapol!) get round to it!! The same happened for me with the Class 67..more expensive than most other Diesels at the time but worth every penny(imo)
