Are the buffers sprung? There doesn't look to be much room if not, without hacking away some more plastic.

Hi Jol Looking good so far. It's nice to know you get problems when building kits just like us lesser mortals . How is the layout coming on? Any pictures? Another Topic maybe? I'm still working on the Precursor Tank chassis and trying to get it to run reliably round the corner into 'Clarendon'. As I've sprung the drivers by CSB's it's just a case of getting the correct combination of spring wire. Hopefully I'll have her running for the derby show in a fortnight. I'm having the same problem with the B4, I think I might modify the front bogie to work similar to the precursor one and see if that might help it get round the curve. Keep at it. Cheers Andy

Well i've been busy over the Xmas hols building and laying track to the point that i can say it's finished. Maybe just a bit of tidying up here and there. Now all i've got to do is wire it up and fit point motors etc. Then it's time to do some scenery, which is something i've not done much of (Yet) . Here we are on it's side to make wiring easier.

Thought it was about time i published something that was finished, so here is a photo of the finished signal. It's been delayed be the fact that we have been planning an extension for the layout and was unsure if it was going to be repositioned. Now we have decided it's staying put i'll fix it down and set about the operating unit, but more of that later.

Also the lousy weather we are having over Easter. But it did get me quite eager to do some modelling. So here goes. This is a London Road Models kit for a LBSCR B4 that I started about a year ago! It's gone together very well so far, the splashers over the front bogie were a bit tricky though. I've just fitted pick ups to the motor so a test run is in order then we'll go on from there. I wonder how long this bout of eagerness will continue? I'll let you know in due course. Except why is it that given a choice of two wires to connect to the motor you always get them the wrong way round, Must be one of Murphy's laws. It needs a lot more weight in it, nice long boiler to fill with lead and also hang the tender so to put weight on to rear drivers. Here's a photo showing the chassis. Would be nice to get it looking better for the show at Shepshed in April. Better late than never. First up shows the CSB on the chassis, using the LRM horn blocks (very nice) and just letting the beam rest onto the bearing instead of running through another handrail knob as I think Ted S. suggests. Being LRM horn guides they locate in a slot so the bearings don't wander along the axle. Hopefully that's fairly clear. Yuk doesn't a close up shot show up all the muck you thought you'd cleaned off Here's another showing CSB detail, this belongs to an Alan Gibson kit of a LSWR G6. This has got handrail knobs fitted to the top of the bearings. And just to spoil you here is the completed thing. Anyway back to the B4. Next shows the front bogie (upside-down). It pivots on a central bolt, with the axle beams also pivoting, and a wire soldered across the ends acting like a torsion bar. (I hope) I can always file some more off the sides of the horn guides if needed. Some packing on top of the bearing is also an option. __________________________________________

I'm new to this forum so apologies if i make a mess of it. It's nice to see what some other people are up to,so i thought i'd join in. Cue picture of signal on bench. Well probably better off not seeing the bench, it's a mess but then aren't they all? [/img] The signal is a LNWR 55ft bracket signal with co-acting doll. It's to go on our club layout as an outer home. Situated in a cutting between fiddle yard and road bridge, so virtually hidden, oh well! The post's have been filed from square brass section. The signal arms are from 'MSE'. Additional details from Ratio. I've managed to connect the operating mechanism to one of the arms, but can't test it yet as one of the other club members has the set up board, so will have to wait till after my hols next week. Thanks. Here's one i took a while ago whilst still planning the layout of the bouncer unit, just about shows the set up. The control circuit board on the right, then 2 motors connected to a crank to operate the signal. Each board can take up to 4 motors. There is then a control unit that plugs in to set up the motors for bounce, throw and speed etc. As I said I haven??????????¬???????t yet got it fully operational as it may be moved but after initial trials they do look to quite effective. Care is needed in setting up the throw as I??????????¬???????ve used one to operate a gate, connected directly to the motor and as the motor won??????????¬???????t stall it ripped it straight off it??????????¬???????s hinges. Weskie's Workbench: LRM Precursor chassis by Weskie original page on Old RMweb __________________________________________ ??? posted on Sat Nov 01, 2008 7:19 pm For my latest project now that the dark evenings are here, I am building a new chassis for a LNWR Precursor tank. The chassis kit is the new updated version that Jol Wilkinson has designed for the London Road Precursor tank kit, replacing the previous Brassmasters (I think) one. I built the loco about 5 years ago and never did get it to run smoothly so after much fiddling and tweaking I thought it would be easier to start again. Here is the start and so far so good. I intend to spring the driving wheels with CSB??????????¬???????s and LRM horn blocks, with the rest built as instructed. It is to P4 gauge and will run on our club layout ??????????¬?‹?“Clarendon??????????¬???????. Hopefully I will have it ready to run at Wigan in December, but we??????????¬???????ll see? Some progress has been made but not as much as I would like. The chassis is up and running, just a few minor tweaks to be made, one or two clearance problems. The buffer beam brackets on the body need reducing and the tank support brackets on the chassis need slimming down a bit. But otherwise it??????????¬???????s going ok. Just need to add some pick-ups and brakes. Then a good clean up and into the paint shop. Here??????????¬???????s the progress so far:- I do hope there is some good trade stands at Wigan as I could do with a bucket load of ??????????¬?‹?“Time??????????¬??????? if not a lorry load. I bet it will be the first thing to be sold out though. I was hoping to have her ready for Wigan show last year, which you???‚¬?„?ve guessed it, I failed. And now it???‚¬?„?s only just over a week to Scaleforum. Some progress has been made, with extensive testing to make sure she will go round the main curve on Clarendon. A few tweaks here and there and she seems ok, so I???‚¬?„?ve stripped the chassis and cleaned it in the ultrasonic bath at work and given it a coat of paint. Here she is ready for reassembling. My Layout by Weskie original page on Old RMweb __________________________________________ ??? posted on Sun Dec 30, 2007 10:11 pm Hi All Well after years of not finishing a layout, or even getting anywhere near to finishing. I thought i'd give it another go!! So i resurected a couple of baseboards from a previous project. In true 'Blue Peter fashion' here's one i made earlier! (6mm ply, double thickness at ends, and cross braced.) Then after a couple of hours playing on Templot i came up with this. Apologies for being another branch line but.... Not sure if you can transfer a plan from Templot to here so i took a picture instead. Then being fairly satisfied i printed the whole plan out. (Isn't Templot wonderful) (From just another satisfied customer.) So it now looks like this! Being fairly small there could be half a chance i might finish this one, or at least get close. That will do for now. I'll try to keep it updated. Fairly bog standard construction, steel bullhead rail, ply and rivet sleepers. Hopfully i'll be able to recover the crossover as well, but still working on that. More pictures later. More updates to follow __________________________________________ ??? posted on Mon Mar 24, 2008 8:11 pm Hi all Here's an update of the slow progress on the layout, some more track work completed including the B7 turnout I built for the modeller of the day award (Thanks again to all who competed and voted) It??????????¬???????s only roughly positioned as there is more ground work to be completed first, same goes for the one behind as well. I wanted to get the mainline to fiddle yard, off to the right, completed first so that maybe I could wire up and do some test running, but that required a bridge to be built. Hey Presto here??????????¬???????s the first attempt to glue some plasticard together! Fairly straight forward, just plasticard glued to a foam board former and painted for blue bricks, just need to pick out some in different colours and fill out the mortar joints. Then fit some capping stones to the parapets??????????¬???????, still working on that. I don??????????¬???????t seem to get much time to model over the summer (What summer I hear). Wet summers make harvesting hard work on machinery so they break down more which makes more work for me. Oh well mustn??????????¬???????t grumble. Mind you what with the credit crunch and the weather (Snow in October!) I fear we are in for a long winter. On the brighter side though, more modelling time. So back to this update, as I said not much to report, a bit more track work and I managed to acquire some trestles, spotted on another thread, but I got mine on offer from Sealey Tools. I must get round to building a control panel so I can test run, but that means sorting out the signalling as well, which is where some help would be appreciated. Mainly what sort of signal would be used to enter the station? (1960 semaphore). Where does the time go? Some progress made over summer. track and fiddle yard connection sorted. Control panel built. exsisting track wired up, not bad really. So it's time to test out the first train Sorry no video so you'll have to trust me that in did run ( sort of) Only managed to wire up the point vee's the wrong way round. Well here is my first posting on the new site, so more of a test to see if it goes alright So while RMWeb has been down i've got round to some modelling, which i am sure a lot of you have also done This is a london Road Models - LNWR 42ft bogie lavatory brake composite, sat on MJT coach compensating units and Exactoscale wheels. Plenty to finish off but it's a start.
