  1. It was built as a Eurostar terminal though and only used for 13 years so there was the initial cost to build and all the infrastructure like grade separated flyovers to get the Eurostars into Waterloo then another cost (apparently £800m!!!) to convert it for domestic usage. Money well spent?
  2. the one they showed the sample of at Warley not 2 months ago????
  3. I cant help thinking it'd be a waste of effort and big expense in the wrong place. HS2 really needs to get to Euston to be any use at all and building a servicing yard at OOC would just be a waste like Waterloo International
  4. There's certainly very very few exhibition layouts of anywhere near that era around. There might be some in homes, but its really not going to be an easy era to model accurately
  5. I dont think either are the new model from the lights and livery
  6. But the current plan will be to replace the Pendos with non-tilting HS2 stock though isn't it? ... so they'll go fast for 134 miles then slower than Pendos for the remaining 250+ miles up to Glasgow. But then how many billions would it add to have tilting HS2 stock?
  7. It really is an absolute mess. Going as far as Liverpool or Manchester probably wont make much difference whether the trains tilt or not, but for services beyond that you'd have to wonder if they should when HS2 is so minimal for Phase 1 or does 'progress' mean that they're slower for more of their journey after spending all that money. .... or do HS2 sets just blast along that line then everyone de-trains onto a Pendo (or replacement) at Handsacre? it really is a farce
  8. ..... until someone else brings out a competing HST when it'll suddenly drop
  9. thats never stopped them producing niche or obscure choices of models before!
  10. Out of the Haymarket Class 08s I'd have preferred the Provincial one, we'd already had Intercity livery on 08673
  11. even when new there would have been a fair few differences between them - different grilles from different builders, boiler panel differences, split/centre headcodes, fabricated/cast bogies, dual/vacuum braked
  12. those look fantastic!!!! Where would you get old adverts like that from?
  13. You can upgrade them but it probably wouldn't be easy without Bachmann spares, there isn't a DCC socket in them, the 'chip' is built into the lighting PCB
  14. A recall of them all whether they're working or not???? Is there a safety danger to a model not running smoothly? 🤨
  15. Was Cowlairs closed as early as October 1983? I expected it to have been closer to Sprinterisation and 1989 or was it just the coaches allocated elsewhere while still being maintained there later?
  16. It seems like in too many cases in this country the rights of the individual are more important than the benefits to wider society. Of course there should be fair treatment, but less lawyers getting made wealthy by continual arguing and appealing every little thing.
  17. I'd doubt any suburban Mk1s ever made it up the West Highland Line and did all 'mainline' mk1s not have lavatories anyway? I dont think any didn't so wouldn't have thought it would need special labelling for that. I could be wrong, but I think its just a standard open or compartment coach with the toilet and door that way round - the composites or brake composites had the doors to the outside of the toilet.
  18. The trouble is it came from a company that was only recently blowing their own trumpet of being 100 years old ... You'd think they'd have learned what they're doing a bit better in that time.
  19. I'd wonder if they might designate 2 to make sure of a backup plan if 60100 wasn't available for some reason. e.g. thinking of the 58s stranded in France after the end of their work.
  20. Bearing in mind how long it is since we saw the initial releases of FFA/FGA I'm surprised we haven't seen another run of either bare wagons or with different container liveries. I remember they seemed expensive wagons at the time, but they generally disappeared from shops fairly quickly too!
  21. Its when you see things like this that make it all the more baffling how shoddy they were in a few areas with the APT. It would surely have been easier and more accurate to only model the section of racks they needed and use a half-seated portion of tooling they already had, but they've gone to the effort of tooling up both to stick in the one coach. It really makes it look like the development budget was blown by a certain point and then just any old thing had to get chucked out.
  22. I dont think I've seen them anywhere else either, looks like catalogue photos rather than an actual genuine 'in stock' ones too.
  23. Most buyers of TXS chips would probably be more accepting of compromise and could potentially be used in other manufacturers DMUs too depending on pin count or wiring - 105, 108, 121, 122
  24. I can see what you mean, but I think there's a big difference between more 'normal' sales levels of perhaps 20-30% and 30-50% that we've been seeing. Of course it could be retailer's trying to clear space and shift stock, but quite a few of the models aren't that long released so perhaps earlier in the year rather than sitting on shelves for a while. I think that indicates a more fundamental problem of products missing their target rather than just quantities misjudged and will probably see an effect in less similar models being produced in future.
