  1. I have aspirations (and started) on Singleton (ex LBSCR) which also requires a large number of horse boxes for race days - a number of SR constituent ones gathered up so far, plus a couple of NE examples, but I think the sands of time will run out before it ever gets close to completion! But thanks for the inspiration..... Cheers Richard
  2. Hi, Many thanks, for that - I see the track bed is thicker - is that 9mm or 12mm ply? I must try and find my copy of Barry Norman's book - I'm rather worried that I've left it about 10 years too late to get on with my project! Cheers Richard
  3. Hi, What thickness & depth of plywood did you use for the various elements of the baseboards - I would like to use this style of construction for my projected layout if I ever get around to it! Cheers Richard
  4. Hi, That's not a Westinghouse pump, but Mr Wainwright's steam reverser (or possibly Mr Stirling's!) , though they do look very similar - the SECR was a vacuum braked line.... But very nice anyway - wish I could line out a loco as well as that! Cheers Richard
  5. Hi, If you contact SE Finecast they will email you a pdf of the instructions free of charge - they have sent me several SR kit instructions, both for original and revised kits. Hope that helps Best wishes for 2023 Richard
  6. Just a thought - having got conducting wheels, did you consider going down the split frame route? Best wishes Richard
  7. Sorry to display my ignorance, but where/when was this show?
  8. Ooo - I like the connection across from No 3 road to the loco facilities on the original - I bet that restricted the fixed wheel base of the engines they could use! Trying to remember if I ever used Holborn Viaduct back in the 70s - I can remember walking through the concourse.... Nice inspiration for a compact layout....
  9. Ooh! Don't think I have seen that particular image (used in your header) of "Bodiam" at Rolvenden before..... nice!
  10. Oo-er, I wonder if they do those windpumps in 7mm scale? (or if there's a drawing to build one to.....)
  11. Well, I found them - can't quite believe how badly I put them together almost 50 years ago!
  12. I seem to recall that Keysers did a version of the LCDR/SECR covered van? - I have a couple hiding away somewhere......
  13. Hi, I hope I can remember all this advice that is being shared - I bought myself a Curio Cutter almost 2 years ago and haven't unpacked it yet! I have been trying to teach myself Inkscape and am using the exercise to develop a set of drawings for the platform buildings at Singleton, West Sussex, for my embryonic layout, to then translate across to the cutter. I have copies of the original drawings from The Network Rail Archive, and whilst they show the style of building, they don't represent what was actually built! Best wishes Richard
  14. Mmm, just thinking the sentinel would be good in 16mm NG using the nylon chains (from Branchlines) like wot I used on my 1904 Pickering steam railcar in 7mm scale On dear, I mustn't start yet another project......
  15. Hi, Here's the couple of photos I mentioned - I'm not certain where I got them from - I made copy negs probably 50 years ago! - They were copied from photos that came either from Michael Pope, who was the laboratory assistant at Rye Grammar School and lived near Doleham halt (I believe his mother had some connection with the railway) or from the proprietor of Landgate Cameras in Rye , Robert de st Croix. cheers Richard
  16. Sorry, no idea if "Mercedes" is relevant or not! - it was in the same wallet of photos as the others, so included it for completeness - I have a couple others of a vertical boiler engine with chain linked wheels which I think is Darwell Reservoir, can scan those as well if you like... Best wishes Richard
  17. Are these of any interest to you.... (I was brought up in nearby Rye...) regards Richard
  18. My inclination would be, definitely use it, but in hidden sections or fiddle yard......
  19. Hi Eric, Thanks for telling me about your thread - for the benefit of other readers, it transpires that we were also in New Zealand in November/December 2019 - our (my!) railway activities were fairly limited this time, but I manage to call in at the Bay of Islands railway at Kawakawa - the line runs down the middle of the main street which also happens to form part of State Highway 1 (main North - South road on North Island) - remincent of Weymouth Harbour Tramway or the Ffestiniog - Welsh Highland link in Porthmadog. Well worth a visit when we are all able to travel again Stay safe Richard
  20. both the LSWR and the LBSCR each had 2 very similar "plate glass wagons" - something rather different to stimulate conversation, if run at an exhibition!
  21. That's a good idea, I might "borrow" it when I get round to my "Gladstone" (the LBSCR one, not the "Oh, Mr Porter" one.....)
  22. Hi Tom, My posting was no critism of your model - the etched kit was what was available at the time - it's not the easiest of kits to build and I followed advice to "slit" up the corner pillars & solder them up, as I was told it was almost impossible to fold the etch on the corners! 3D printing has opened up a whole new chapter in modelling, which certainly gets results far quicker than I do... Best wishes Richard
