Got through quicker today ... for some reason the system would not allow anty comment. Closed and just to porove a point signed in again and ... it took me to the first 2009 page but sci then allow me to the end and hence this comment. Odd bits remembered: Much prefer paper; A! sems to be the in-thing that cannot distinguish between correct/incorrect; right/wrong; true/false; actual/made-up. Conclusion - generally cannot be trusted but 'proper use' e.g histology departments - great.

On the subject of downsizing ... still have stuff stored taking up valuable space but with all the 'living' on the ground floor although rooms smaller - very much modified since the move that included the loss of bedroom 4. The chalet style has a long room up top - that for the first time allowed a rr/at 21' to run at home ... enough said there is of course some take-over talk as a wardrobe from bedroom 4 needs moving somewhere but , there is room available ...

Well guys - now settled in new abode and finally getting round to building a layout. Attached photgraph shows baseboards. 16'6" of former boards reused plus 2 5'x 2'6" donated by club member. The reliability of the 5" brass hinges determined that they would be reusedand some 'supports' of 3" x 3" wood used to control the open movement. together with the metal 'right angles' to ensure exact closure. On the left 15'x 2' wit\h 6'6" at ends and the right side 13'6" to allow access round the staircase. Underneath at present stored is Deesdale Road and opposite re-purposed shelving currently holding over 250 boxes of 'bits and pieces' in 'take-away containers - what do we aquire over the years! With recycling from 'building work' that was not allowed to go into the skip the only current expense has been the 6mm ply to smarten up the vista from the stairs but the scenic supports at the rear are for 9mm - forgot that when ordering as the original idea was to use the cut-offs for the back scene. Still focused on Rothley and Swithland measured and made a station platform to fit the -years boxed - Bachmann buildings and looked to fit the previous track plan on it ... but with much less baseboard this is not possible. At present trying to think Rule 1 but still thinking GCR as a guide that may need the station to be shortened to cope with necessary track curves and with Grandchildren running in mind. Have cut/printed paper strips as have been unable to make any software track website useable †hat have been relocated many many times to date ... final track plan coud be ages away. In mind too are buildings that have been in boxes since 1975 - SWMBO says get rid so in time, this probably being my last build those not needed will be donated if good enough or of course scrapped. If interested that's where we are folks.

I've had some of these for many years but for some reason it doesn't take long for them to fall out so evetually got fed up with using them. Agree that the ones fastening round the knee are a real pain butm recently while working on something tht will eventually havemany parallel strips oof metal inked together have folded the straps back and skide onto them when needed ... it had proven so far to be very comfortable although it would not wrok in the garage or otherwise outside.

Puppers, know the feeling. but thanks for the trigger. Used to be able to kip anywhere. During a lunch break my peers found me asleep in the staffroom slumped over a table. Presumeably they had tried the simplest things to check a response. What they did next was to put perfume on my shirt collar - it did not wake me ... The realproblem came when returning home SWMBO demanded to know what I had been up to ... I had not noticed the perfumebeing in the midst of a cold. Relating this response next day the reponse was group laughter as it mappears that they had a good laugh while undertaking the said action.

Must be lucky as I normally have nothing to do with cooking ... but am an expert at dishwasher packing and use after eats! Notice a few 'newbies' who may not bw aware that in our house that SWMBO is excellnet at two different meals each time because a lot of what she likes/eats I do not. Recent medical investigations have shown that many of the foods not 'liked' would not be good for what my late father referred to as 'my constitution'. SWMBOs favourite TV programme is a certain Saturday morning chef who has guests - cannot remeber the name of him or the programme. When the club members go out to a show or visit we always end up in a restaurant and while others have had their choices Ihave in the past just had a sweet. This plays havock with the general 'going Dutch' that generally applies as my drink also just happens to be 'tap water please no ice no lemon'. SWMBO is unhappy that the only place we as a larger family can 'go out for a meal' is the Harvester where for a few years now as long as a certain item is on the menu I'm OK but SWMBO would rather go elsewhere. You can probablty guess that as a couple we do not go out for a meal at any time. Not meant to be a rant.

Serves them rught and hope that every last detail is checked out and when perhaps a 'short cut' has been made they have to go back to the point of 'error' and remedy each time..

Probably because of ll the additives in 'modern' food preparation to make them look nice and taste 'OK'. Like some fellow members here in the days of rationing 'rubbish' foods were not readily available.

Hi Guys, just ba short visit although it has taken a whilw to go through quite a few pages. Comouter wise I still cannot get pictures from e.g. BBC news in emails or anything on the second stage having successfully got nto a site ... we will see waht can be done once the local expert (viz son returns) sometime in the future . Why has it been so long since last access ... well I had a battle with a table saw and it won. Not quite sure just what happened but a mglove became caught and a relatively wide but thankfully incomplete removal of tissue and finger nail resulted on - you've guessed - main index finger. For security reasons a large number of PWS were 'automatic' and therfore unrecorded so with a finger that was the key out of action much was unaccessible. Today 'success' on this site. What I have found in recent weeks has been that I have done a lot more of thge things that SWMBO required ... and there are more so I will pop-in but probably much less than in recent years.

Autin of England or/and Austin Devon circa 1950 was when these were around and the teacher of Class 3 had one and parked it on the school playground. When starting to add this had her name in mind but it has gone although I can picture her hitting pupils on the knuckles with a pencil.

Sounds like you went to a school with similar aims or, your teacher gained his English Language degree from Oxford as did all of ours at that time ... something else that would appear as 'discrimination' if such a requirement was on a current job description.

Semantics - together with an awlful lot of so-called changes in addressing people I am 'old' not elderely or older person and definitely not a 'person with xyz' ,I have a condition sumarised by a single word! How this also messes with the English language and the use of 'precis' (French origin and missing the accent here!) exercises that we were familiar with in school days and which editors still use extensively. The PC brigade is responsible for a lot of 'nonsense changes' in this language of ours. Added to what has becme a rant, the use of 'think' instead of the correct 'thing' has reached the disastrous stage of being 'accepted' as earlier the use of different 'to' rather than the correct different 'from' in the latest lexicon dictionary acceptable word usage. Rant over.

Happy New Year to aall. Watched the whole of the postmaster saga tonight and found it a rather difficult watch. Not surprised to see that compensation is still. not appropriately around. Other than that, have at last completed the loft insulation and also managed to make a few boards that at some time will feature things that run on parallel strips of metal. Was then able to spend a few days with the club helping to get a rather large seaside town layout into an exhibition state - great fun was had by all.

Would be funny if it wasn't a truism ... one that costs because of the time held on ... that uis until they cut you off!.

Well "If you can get your finger out and sort out the 'spare room' maybe I could" is the sort of reply, SWMBO very capable and has done such work in the past - so famous last words ...the end of DIY will be delayed. The other Pup comment? the book referred was something like the 'Panda eats shoots and leaves'. @Erichill16 - In spite of my above comments on the use of 'electronic aids' in terms of everything going that way we found that it made admission fees an easier process although we did/do accept cash. The treasurer is au fait with all that 'modern stuff' and definitely knows his way around it.

We have a very old sycamore tree in our garden and just the leaves etc on the pathways fill up a bin while those on the grass may or may not stay this year. The latter because if there are not too many leaves they breakdown and enrich the soil but if there are too many and you leave them the area beneath becomes wet and pests just love it and the grass may die ... it may therefore be a case of watch and see when of course it actually stops raining long enough to rake them up. The problem with sycamore is of course the seeds 10s of thousands of them and they are very very good at sprouting and often in the most unexpected places. Famous last words perhaps but I can see a conclusion to all the upgrading and further necessary DIY coming to an end so have recovered stored pieces of plywood on frames to modify in a manner that will enable twin pieces of metal strip to run. SWMBO is in agreement until suggestions on sorting out a wardrobe 'end' that apparently needs moving is 'too good' to be next to these boards especially if the bottom half is too tall to fit. Trestles are 'unacceptable' and 'you have got to store all your boxes out of sight', therefore the thought of preparing and making all the frames match with somewhere of the order of 24 support posts and potential local storage will take time and I am expected to have things running before Christmas - hence it seems pocket or computer time will be limited but ... it will happen!?.

Totally agree - I always insist on the paper statements as they are specific, clear, notes can be written on them and it is much easier to check back. The online are not helpful most of the time and to have to trawl back is a real pain. Must add that I am definitely not a fan of all this 'do everything online' business. More recently difficult to sort out a cancellation of change of address ... it wasn't done and the person in question does not have internet access and to boot it would not matter as they also cannot read but ... it can only be done online .... As for parking, what a nightmare these parking meters are - do not often work and if you have to telephone because they no longer take cash it adds to the cost.

Been following your progress - looking great. Reading this reminded me of the time in recent weeks adding insulation in loft areas without crushing what's there already while making the space useful for storage. This included making a new entrance that matched all the others ... I am no carpenter, SWMBO was not happy with the whole idea but is 'pleased' with the result. Next thing 'What are these doing up here' - former baseboards brough up from the garage hopefully to find some way of (permanently) siting them for a future - unmentionable - project. Dropping in here whenever time allows - thank.

Not surprised with the 'obstacles' in place in booking - where when , already booked - must be at time x in place Y. SWMBO also entitled but would they book at the same time (bearing in mind 'the action' only takes a second or two) - No, hence parking in an unfamiliar place x 2 at a busy time of the day traffic wise. Then when all complete - 0ne of those who doesn't appreciate doing all these things on mobiles - end up getting a lettwer telling us to book.

One Tommy Steel chose SWMBO to sing a song to ... she was embarrassed and refused but regrtted it afterwards.
