So setting fire to his dustbin would be easy?
And they only empty them once a fortnight around here.
-
You're right there Mike.I wouldn't like it.....
I'd love it. so for now I'll have to make do with 3864 instead.
Yes I know it's running wrong line but it's the fiddle yard.

I tell everyone I'm the same age as my favourite class of GWR loco. The 45.
-
Yup + Swindon, Bristol, Taunton and goodness knows where else on my travels.P
You're a lucky chap then.I don't recall my late father mentioning seeing them at NA though. At least I'll be able to see one soon.At Didcot.

I saw them all as well......Long bu***rs IMO but really beautiful when ex works.
P
Laira ?
-
According to my old 'Combined Volume' I saw all of them Rob - walloping great things they were but very impressive when in clean lined green, not so wonderful when they were mucky.
Nice. All the photos in the colour albums I have show them gleaming and there's one leaving Paddington on the Royal Duchy.Very modellable.
-
That's much better.
And if I'd realised you wanted a 47XX I wouldn't have sold you the one I had -
I'm not desperate for one it just came into my head with Trains and Armour post above.Lovely engines though and used on night freights.Did you ever see one in the flesh Mike ?
One to remember to vote for in the next poll.

Absolutely insane - who pays £85 for a GW Toad with a face?
Nobody hopefully but I think in this case it was a sellers typo and he has pulled it.
-
Please stop mentioning 47XXs - having bought one completed I don't need someone to look at what's going on here and Didcot and thinking that they are onto something.........
There's no chance of one rtr from Hornby at least because there were only nine in the class, don't have names and never wore garter blue.
-
But on the other hand, maybe I should try. I sure would love one of these ( In GWR green of course):
Now that IS nice.No design clever needed on that.Anyone who builds one of those can run it on ANTB all day anyday.

Please start so I can buy the RTR.....
OK then but you must build a 47xx kit in return favour please.PDK do one.
-
Comet's pic is good isn't it! Think it looks neat in that livery.
P
Yes but not as nice as .....
-
How about a Comet W20 (Collett Corridor 3rd Bow end)?
P
The Finching sisters would like those full length stepboards Phil. http://www.cometmodels.co.uk/data/Catalog/images/W20-1%20150dpi%2080pc.jpg
I do think that's the best option on what's available that way.I reckon if I make a start, someone will announce one rtr.
-
For the GWR fans, are there any specific pieces that you love?
Anything by Don Breckon or Barry Freeman gets my seal of approval.Summer at Saltern Cove for example.
-
Tank wagons aside. As you know my priority is to get more coaching stock for ANTB.I've just stumbled across this old thread of mine http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/30682-gwr-coach-photos/
I still have the old b set body waiting for some sides. The E141 wasn't a go-er so is there anything on Mr Comet's list I could genuinely use this moulding for easily.
60' bow ended.

Thanks for that. Here's the link http://www.robbiesrollingstock.co.uk/Tank_Wagons.htm
He doe's five different Pratts Spirit versions although no mention of what wagon he uses for them as he uses Dapol for the coal wagons he doe's.
It might be transfers only looking again.

Topic reset.
We're building a layout "Diesels in the Duchy". Its a model of St Blazey.
It's got nothing to do with football......
Although - that said - how many of the main football teams originated from railway/ shed teams?
Don't get me wrong - I hate football
Don't be such a grump. We wander off topic all the time on A Nod To Brent [aka RMweb's GWR modellers club]
-
Ian Rush is a modeller I think but there was a footy player named after him.
P
Possibly one of Britains greatest strikers.Right up there with myself. He never played for Newark or owned a caravan.

Rob did you notice the number on the end of the first tanker in http://warwickshirerailways.com/gwr/gwrqhy1995.htm ? It might explain why it's a devil of a job to get your tanker rake in the "correct" running order.
Perhaps I should ask Beast of this parish to do them. [iron Maiden]

Hi Rob,
I know it's post-nationalisation, but have you seen these photos of oil trains on the Warwickshire website:
http://warwickshirerailways.com/gwr/gwrqhy1995.htm
http://www.warwickshirerailways.com/gwr/gwrbg2278.htm
And you don't necessairly need a large layout for them either: http://www.warwickshirerailways.com/gwr/gwrw2193a.htm
Fabulous find Mikkel and it didn't escape my notice that one of those engines was 3864 too.

Rob,
Looking at your marvellous pictures I found myself admiring the red Devon cliffs, Can I ask what was used to create them please?
Regards,
Dave
Hi Dave.Nothing special and unfortunately I don't have any photos under construction.A similar technique was used for my station grass bank where I used polystyrene blocks covered in mod roc after shaping.Very messy.Cover your trackwork with newspaper first.
An undercoat is applied although if using scenic mats it's not needed. The front edge has a layer of polyfilla spead over it followed by Green Scene Devon Soil painted on top of a red undercoat,B & Q matchpot emulsions are good for this.Various scenic materials are used for the greenery including WS foliage matting ripped apart.

Hi Rob
I might be interested in the Fina's were they on the scene 1939 with that livery ?
Not according to the website quoted by Mikkel in post 1511.A British retail brand from 1953 as I read it.I would use them myself otherwise.
'This is the British arm of the Belgian company Petrofina, they started trading in the UK in the later 1940s but only established a British retail brand in 1953 when the bought out Cities Service Oil Company Ltd. (an existing distributor of petroleum products) and several small distribution chains. Fina ware themselves bought out by Total in 1999.
Fina were buying and using railway tank wagons in their livery by the later 1950s (some of which were second hand stock). They have operated rail tankers, both Class A and B, in their livery. In the early years the Class A tanks were silver or very light grey with the word FINA about 30 inches (75cm) high on the upper side in red outlined in black. Under this was 'motor spirit' in black. The Class B tanks used the company logo, usually to the left and with 'fuel oil' in lettering about a foot high on the right.'
-
A few photos of the oil tanks in close up.Where I had two of the same vehicle I made an attempt at renumbering by doing just one number. In hindsight a better job may result in doing the complete number as the font style may not be quite the same.Another job I may do is to fit screw-links as this train is likely to be a fixed rake. However,Smiths are quite pricey so won't be done all in one go.

A Nod To Brent - a friendly thread, filled with frivolity, cream teas and pasties. Longing for the happy days in the South Hams 1947.

Following Mike the Stationmaster's comment on grubby 47xx's, I found one in one of Peter Gray's colour albums alongside Tigley signalbox.4706 of Bristol SPM shed on an Exeter to Plymouth stopper.Absolutely filthy.
