Is that the Exeter Plymouth train worked by SR locos to keep there route knowledge of the GW main line in case of diversions ?

Yes I think so.Its an Exeter/Plymouth stopper in '54 taken near Cornwood.

Ah, Bodders in original Spam can. That explains it all.

  2. The thing that stands out for me is those hideous wheels on the Dapol County.Nothing finesse about those and not as easy to remedy as a smokebox door handle !
  3. Can you imagine Riley or Peters with a digital camera though. Here's two more versions making that four of the same photo. Now that's what I call value for money !
  4. The evening sun catches the water's edge as 45xx class 4547 passes with a local train.A couple of horseboxes are attached to be filled on arrival at destination.I've used the old photo setting in our Image Editor instead of b&w for a change.Feedback if possible.
  5. The final double header of the weekend sees my favourite Castle piloting a Hall on an up express featuring a SR luggage van at the front. That'll please Spam's. 5011 'Tintagel Castle' and 4948 'Northwick Hall' do the honours.Following shortly afterwards was a pair of prairies in the shape of 4540/7 with a b set and van.
  6. Recently inspired by the Pendon sea wall photos in BRM ,I hope you don't mind me posting one of my own creations with Castle class 5011 'Tintagel Castle' passing with a down express to Plymouth as 2884 class 3864 trundles by with an up empty cattle van train.
  7. Its now mid afternoon as 2884 class 3864 pilots an unidenified Hall class with a train of vans heading for Hackney Sidings.Followed soon after with a pair of Granges in 6829 'Burmington Grange' and 6814 'Enborne Garange' on an up express.
  8. Another sunny Sunday morning sees the first train of the day.A pair of engines with 5525 leading brings a train of empties round the estuaries curve. The unidentified pannier is probably going to Tigley Junction shed for later work duties. Of course the 'unidentified' loco is great from a modellers /operators point of view as the loco stud can look larger than it is in reality. You can use same loco again in another sequence.
  9. Better stop dreaming of the quiet life, cos its the one we'll never know. And quit running for that runaway bus,cos those rosey days are few...

I had to look that up, nice lyrics!

  10. The spotters are getting their monies worth today as a Manor class 7804 'Baydon Manor' pilots an unidentified Grange on another up express.I'm pushing my timeframe to model 7804 as she was Laira based in 1948.Photos of her in the West Country are rare. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/51541-looking-for-photos-of-7804-baydon-manor/
  11. Across the estuary and here we have a pair of Castles with 4097 'Kenilworth Castle' piloting an unidentified one on an up express.
  12. Well as I've said already its double header weekend.I'm a big fan of the likes R.C. Riley and Norman Lockett plus other photographers of the day who's work inspires people like myself who aren't old enough to have witnessed mainline steam let alone the late 40's. One such inspiring train was the up milk from Penzance of which there was two daily from 1946. Its a bright summers morning as we see Hall class 4948 'Northwick Hall' piloting 2884 class 3864 on a relatively small milk train with a pbv at the rear,
  13. Some cracking stuff on this thread and here's one of my humble efforts.Someone on my layout thread commented on how this looked like the Dart Valley.Well pleased with that. Here's small prairie 4547 with a single coach somewhere in Devon.
  14. I don't possess one 81C but perhaps running it with my old 43xx mogul might suffice.Of course then I'll have the anachronism of using the Bachmann Colletts.I need some new rolling stock please manufacturers !!
  15. A couple more of Newton's favourite Grange 6814 viewed across the estuary on a summers evening in the South Hams. She will be busy tomorrow as she's booked to bring an up express from Plymouth piloted by here sister engine 6829 'Burmington Grange' also from NA shed. Incidently I'd like to do a double header with City of Truro but what with ?
  16. One of them was probably Zach Plunkett. A glorious summers evening for the spotters as Grange class, 6814 'Enborne Grange' is glimpsed aross the estuary with a down express bound for Penzance.
  17. The ones I saw at Goodrington earlier in the month were also well leafed so the sea spray and winds don't effect them although they're not literally on the sea wall. I like the idea of 'estuary'.
  18. Bernard Cribbins in the original or Gregor Fisher in the remake. Both excellent portrayals.

Bernard Cribbins everytime! Nothing against Gregor Fisher's portrayal, but Cribbins was the first and did it so well.

To be honest I've never heard Gregor's rendition of 'Right Said Fred'...

  19. Very much inspired by the recent Pendon sea wall photos in BRM I've been putting it off and putting it off for weeks but I'm finally going to get around to redoing this scenic piece on the end opposite to what I've done recently. When Andy Y took his photos for MI4 on this section he used quite a lot of photoshop wizardry to make the scene look better than reality here. Here are mine unaltered of a section of the Devon seawall stroke Cockwood harbour. I'm not happy with the way mine slopes [warping] and the colour base of the water so something needs to be done but before I do it I'll post a few photos of various locos on the curve starting with 4547.Of course Andy is welcome to post his photo creation anytime he likes. Be gentle....
