  1. Across the estuary and here we have a pair of Castles with 4097 'Kenilworth Castle' piloting an unidentified one on an up express.
  2. Well as I've said already its double header weekend.I'm a big fan of the likes R.C. Riley and Norman Lockett plus other photographers of the day who's work inspires people like myself who aren't old enough to have witnessed mainline steam let alone the late 40's. One such inspiring train was the up milk from Penzance of which there was two daily from 1946. Its a bright summers morning as we see Hall class 4948 'Northwick Hall' piloting 2884 class 3864 on a relatively small milk train with a pbv at the rear,
  3. Some cracking stuff on this thread and here's one of my humble efforts.Someone on my layout thread commented on how this looked like the Dart Valley.Well pleased with that. Here's small prairie 4547 with a single coach somewhere in Devon.
  4. I don't possess one 81C but perhaps running it with my old 43xx mogul might suffice.Of course then I'll have the anachronism of using the Bachmann Colletts.I need some new rolling stock please manufacturers !!
  5. A couple more of Newton's favourite Grange 6814 viewed across the estuary on a summers evening in the South Hams. She will be busy tomorrow as she's booked to bring an up express from Plymouth piloted by here sister engine 6829 'Burmington Grange' also from NA shed. Incidently I'd like to do a double header with City of Truro but what with ?
  6. One of them was probably Zach Plunkett. A glorious summers evening for the spotters as Grange class, 6814 'Enborne Grange' is glimpsed aross the estuary with a down express bound for Penzance.
  7. The ones I saw at Goodrington earlier in the month were also well leafed so the sea spray and winds don't effect them although they're not literally on the sea wall. I like the idea of 'estuary'.
  8. Bernard Cribbins in the original or Gregor Fisher in the remake. Both excellent portrayals.

Bernard Cribbins everytime! Nothing against Gregor Fisher's portrayal, but Cribbins was the first and did it so well.

To be honest I've never heard Gregor's rendition of 'Right Said Fred'...

  9. Very much inspired by the recent Pendon sea wall photos in BRM I've been putting it off and putting it off for weeks but I'm finally going to get around to redoing this scenic piece on the end opposite to what I've done recently. When Andy Y took his photos for MI4 on this section he used quite a lot of photoshop wizardry to make the scene look better than reality here. Here are mine unaltered of a section of the Devon seawall stroke Cockwood harbour. I'm not happy with the way mine slopes [warping] and the colour base of the water so something needs to be done but before I do it I'll post a few photos of various locos on the curve starting with 4547.Of course Andy is welcome to post his photo creation anytime he likes. Be gentle....
  10. I doubt it would still have the early crest too. Thanks Dudds. That's the Hornby model I missed out on after the initial release.I ordered one from my local emporium only to be told too late that they weren't getting any.I've never got around to searching for another.Very nice model.
  11. Thanks Chris and talking of parcels and I've just see this blog by 46444 http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/blog/531/entry-12194-Hornby-br-southern-region-by-a-few-tweaks/ http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GWR-4587-Train-at-Kingswear-1947-/141035084502?pt=UK_Collectables_Railwayana_RL&hash=item20d6589ad6 Looking at this photo again it does look very similar to the Hornby offering that I have seen here but without Mark's minor detailing added such as the window bars.
  12. I too have a couple of these in olive as they are too nice not to have even for a GWR modeller.Imagine a siphon g to this standard Mark.A lovely job you've made.Again.
  13. So it's defintely highly unlikely 92220 was seen on the South Devon banks in 1960 then so modellers licence has to come into play.Sounds like a great book.

  14. Maybe 'we' could utilise these Bachmann period 1 LMS corridor composites if suitable for cross country services post war.I know these were built in 1923-28 but I'm struggling to see what else to use without building brass kits from Comet etc. http://www.ehattons.com/38514/Bachmann_Branchline_34_252D_Period_I_57ft_Corridor_1st_3rd_composite_in_LMS_crimson/StockDetail.aspx
  15. They do say never go shopping under the influence of drink and rumours abound that Pumblechook's funds may not stretch to a new Fordson after all.The cheque will bounce and the tractor will have to be returned to Dagenham. No he's just mopping his brow as its hot work in a 45xx cab on a summers day.
  16. I've just fell off the computer chair with laughing.Pumblechook. Just had to 'google' it and he was a Dickens character in Great Expectations.Apparently he was a pompous seed merchant and the source of humour in the novel. That's enough English lit for today.
  17. England have won the ashes.Again.

In the case of Rolf, I don't think it's so much a witch hunt as a hunt for the fascinating witches who put the scintillating stitches in the britches of the boys who put the powder on the noses of the faces of the ladies of the harem of the coyrt of King Caractacus....

  18. I doubt it as I prefer cider tasting of which I'm an expert or so swmbo tells me ! That photo was taken in June '47 according to the listing Mike.Spot on for my period.
  19. Now that's scary 81C because there was at one time quite a few 'Sweet's' who lived in Kingsbridge and in the period portrayed although none of them were in the army or farmers to my knowledge.
