    Our annual Spring open day is back for 2024. A chance to come and visit us at our home – Keen House – and see some of our layouts in operation and what we have to offer prospective members – and if you like you can join us on the day at a special rate. Full details and any updates at : https://www.themodelrailwayclub.org/?p=27815 In operation will be our N gauge layout “Lacey Dale“, alongside our OO gauge layout “Ingatestone” that is under construction – but nearing completion. There’s a chance to visit our newly refurbished library, and we’ll have some of our other layout groups represented with demos and a chance to meet them and see if you’d like to get involved. Our pre-owned shop will be open, with a range of bargains, and we expect to have a number of prototype models from manufactures to look at on our test tracks. Plus our bar will be open with a variety of drinks, snacks and sandwiches Entry is free, although children under 18 should be accompanied by an adult, and donations are welcomed. We are just a few minutes walk from King’s Cross / St Pancras rail and tube stations, and not far from Caledonian Road and Barnsbury on the Overground (Mildmay) line. Plus a variety of buses stop closer by, including 73, 91, 205, 214, 259, 274 and 476. Use your preferred app or visit Plan a journey – Transport for London (tfl.gov.uk) And if you do want to drive, parking is free in the local side streets on Sundays and we’re outside the Congestion Charge. Please note there are stairs to all rooms. If you have specific accessibility requirements, please contact us in advance so we can advice and support your visit.

    The show is just about set up - here's our pre-owned stall with hundreds of items from the common, through rare to the frankly down right odd. Including a huge collection of complete Parkside, Ratio, Kirk etc kits - in the West Hall The Club stand is set up including York Road: Where you can also find out more about joining us - with our special show offer of a reduced rate for the rest of 2024 and a free gift. And we've got our layouts Putnam (HO) and Lacey Dale (N) alongside under-construction Orchard Wharf (EM), alongside the layouts from our Young and Junior sections, and the kid's-can-drive layout too... Plus the huge selection of layouts we're delighted have accepted our invitation to attend, a range of demonstrators that can pass on their tips and ideas, and some very tempting items for sale on the trade stands.     Delighted to receive the silver award for LFORM 2022 on behalf of the whole Ally Pally team - but of course like all exhibitions it is very much a team effort both with Warners / BRM and within the MRC to bring the event together. Many thanks to all who voted for us, and also for all those who attended the show last year and this weekend.

    The MRC stand - just inside the entrance in the Great Hall - is a must-visit part of the show: You can see the announcement of a number of new products on Saturday, plus on the test tracks you can see prototypes of a number of already announced products in action. On Sunday at 2, its the British Railway Modelling Awards ceremony - come and see if you voted for the winners.     We've got a busy Model Railway Club stand over the weekend - just inside the door right by the BRM stand. At Noon on Saturday is the BRMA 2021 results presentation - hopefully some of the winners will be there to collect in person. And across the weekend we've got short interviews with a number of manufactures and retailers on what's new which we'll try to stream out on social media if the wi-fi behaves. All subject to the vagaries of big shows, but so far we're expecting: Simon Kohler*, Jamie Warne, Acurrascale, Dapol, Kernow, with a few more just checking their diaries...and anyone else we can grab as the day goes by. Tom * yes, we'll find a nice way to ask 'the' question so lets not pile in here.

    We're moving off the topic, but the congestion charge is designed to discourage car usage through the very central part of London. There are very few journeys to Alexandra Palace where driving through the CCZ is the quickest route - there are plenty of ways around it including Park Lane and Tower Bridge. The nearest the CCZ get to Alexandra palace is Euston and King's Cross. (And yes, TfL is clever enough to not divert you into the CCZ when those boundary roads are closed, or if that is the only option waive the charge in that local area.) AP is in the ULEZ which applies to older cars and small vans, and the date of registration for cars impacted is a bit fluid as some manufactures adopted lower emission technology before others. Hence the need to check the online checker. Whilst many people will want or have to drive, AP is very well connected to public transport, with the regular W3 bus providing links to the front entrance from Finsbury Park and Wood Green.

    Subject to a final meeting with the venue, but in all previous years the servery has been split into 2 - one for exhibitors lunches (with some reserved tables for them) and the other half for anyone else who wants a decent lunch. It may not be cheap, but the full lunch menu downstairs at AP has always been decent quality and sustaining for the day!

    We were delighted to have the two EPs at Keen House yesterday, along with @Graham_Muz , for our autumn mini exhibition. It was a great day - never too busy but never quiet and I hope a few more people will be putting in orders having seen it running on our test tracks.

The new ‘York Road’ station from Copenhagen Fields A ‘loco clinic’ where we can service, diagnose faults and possible fix rolling stock for a small extra charge Our shop stocks a wide selection of pre-owned models – we’ll have a table of bargains, and new items not in our online shop. And you can ‘click and collect’ from our online shop post free as long as you order by Thursday 25th November (other on-line items won’t be available on the day) Refreshments (including a selection of freshly made rolls and Greene King beers) will be available.     My first time at the Leeds show for many years yesterday, and as said above a great selection of layouts including a few I've enjoyed before plus some I hadn't. If you've got time to head over today, well worth the trip.

    The lecture starts at 7.30pm, but doors open at 6.30. Our licenced bar has a range of beers, wine, spirts and soft drinks plus snacks. Guests are welcome, there is no need to book, but please note that there are stairs to the lecture room, and anyone with concerns about accessibility should contact us in advance. There is a voluntary collection, with a suggestion of £3 for non members. Full details are here

    The funeral is on Tuesday 17th August at 11am. However Covid restrictions have seriously limited the number of people who can attend and unless you have had a personal confirmation from the family that there is a space for you please do not attempt to attend the service in person as it is at capacity.
