  1. I miss driving during lockdown, there was still a few prats out on the road, but the ordinary school/commute run drivers were not there. My 25 minute commute was about 15 minutes, loads of room on the roads and the times I was out during the ordinary working day I found it tended to be either professional drivers or people who took driving a bit more seriously. As soon as lock down ended, all the knob heads came crawling out from under their rock, added 10 minutes ot my commute and proceeded to drive like its an incovenience to them. Lockdowns were overally not a great thing, but certain aspects were much better than they are now/before.
  2. I deal with tailgaters by doing exactly nothing, I'll drive to the conditions. I have front and rear cams so any funny business is recorded anyway.
  3. The 16mm show has moved from Peterborough due to the showground closing, and moving near Coventry for this year. Made a bit of a difference to me as I actually need to put some planning into the trip, and now the Peterborough group are going to car share, but interested to see if the numbers at the show improve or dip.
  4. I was taught engine braking (passed in 2015) as a way of controlling speed with the general rule being: 1st gear <10mph 2nd gear 10-20mph 3rd gear 20-30mph etc holding my car in 3rd going downhill in a 30mph area will keep the speed just about right, depending on the slope. I can tell an auto driver a mile off when the brake lights are going on and off constantly.
  5. Hope this is ok to post here, but decided to launch a separate cycling channel on Youtube, mixing it up with the railway stuff was a bit weird and hopefully this'll attract a different audience.
  6. I can't fathom tailgating at all, just unecessary stress on both parties and of course a lack of reaction time.
  7. Some douchenozzle decided to beep me while trying to park up outside. I pulled in to the left (I was indicating) as I had to pull over and reverse, wouldn't have been an issue if the knob head wasn't following 2ft from my backside.
  8. "I'll take a Bachmann 37, 21 pin decoder and a box of .303 please guv"
  9. Bought a toastie maker, been pretty much cheese toasties for lunch and dinner for a few days.

Watch the waistline, I had a period of cheese on toast for lunch everyday, kidded myself that grated had less calories as I wouldn't need to use as much - shirt popping shenanigans later I gave up the naughty cheese lunches.

  10. My gut says that its not the end of Hattons, just the end of the Hattons we know. I wonder if they're packing up to do something new. Just idle speculation on my part.
  11. My workbench consists of a piece of wood on the living room pouffe so has to be tidied away. At least living alone means the living room and workbench can be a shared space. It also becomes my bicycle workshop and my gaming space.
  12. I've never had to wade my Golf any deeper than a puddle, but I think I feel confident as high as the bottom of the sills. No point chancing it as you've only got to stall or as mentioned, some prat comes belting along the other direction. I've waded on my mountain bike though, as seen in the cycling thread :D https://youtu.be/mV53FjakXHA
  13. Its a bit of a suprise, but in a way not a surprise given what I think the market conditions are like. I don't know any more than other posters, so won't speculate further, but times are certainly tough and I do hope a pheonix arises somehow.
  14. Googled the wading depth of my Mk5 Golf estate... 4 inches apparently...
  15. Hello COVID my old friend... I've gone an tested for you again... Cos a lack of appetite softly creeping and the illness that was planted in my nose... Still remains within bloody COVID yup... guess muggins here has it for the second time in six months.
  16. Haven't been out for a couple of days due to the weather, just not worth getting soaked and ending up with a cold. If tomorrow stays dry at least I'll go out for 20 mins or so. Many places have said online that doing 20 minutes a day is better than doing a single long ride at the weekend.
  17. Just a quick jaunt to the shops for some essentials really. The wind was gusting too hard today, it was like cycling against a brick wall. Will see what tomorrow brings.
  18. I've heard something similar: "money can't buy you happiness, but it certainly takes the sting out of being poor" Think it was from Only Fools and Horses...
  19. My order got cancelled due to a stock error. Slightly annoying but it is what it is. Can't seem to find the same fork for a good price elsewhere. Open to any suggestings in the sub £150 range for a set of MTB forks. Must be able to cope with the weight of a fatty, take a wheel with a traditional axle and a disc brake fitting. My search will continue for now.
  20. I once worked for Murdoch lol, seen some of the rot from the inside. Daily Heil is in the same league of mind rotting, gaslighting crap. I admit occasionally I'll see a link to an article from them and others like them that do pique my interest. I have a Times+ subscription, but I ain't ever paid for it lol
  21. There's quite a few video's online I've been watching to see the process, think I might have an issue with the cutting so maybe a call to the bike shop might just be better. Will take a look once the forks arrive.
  22. I've been reflecting this evening on the impact of the internet on mental health... My thoughts? a totally negative impact! On Youtube, I get nothing but anti-woke content pushed towards me (I'm not anti-woke, but not ultra-woke either). Go online, see nothing but people (allegedly) doing better for themselves than I do. Everyone else seems to have tons of disposable income, or always got 'better' things. Facebook is all people doing better than me. Twitter is nothing but politics and echo-chambers. Their algorithms target me by offering me content that will get my goat and gas-light. Yet, I go to the model club, go to the pub, go see mates... I get pleasant conversations all around, even with people who have different beliefs to me. Not to say I've not had positive experiences either, the railway community on social media is generally very positive and supportive. I want to continue uploading my content to Youtube and maybe stick to cars, trains and planes as part of my viewing habits. Just talk trains on Twitter and maybe withdraw mostly from Facebook and not post much.
  23. Ordered myself a new front fork, the shock absorbers on the current ones are shot and not servicable so decided to dip into the funds and get an upgrade. https://hopkinsoncycles.co.uk/product/rockshox-suspension-forks-26-recon-silver-tk-solo-air-1-1-8-straight-steerer/ Not expensive, and not exactly designed for massive jumps, but considering the bike its going on once spent about 8 years in my parents garden (and being slowly restored), this'll hopefully be a significant enhancement to ride quality. I'm hoping I can get away with simply unbolting the handlebars/brake calipers and swapping out. Failing that, got a bike shop 5 mins down the road if I struggle.
