  1. Yes, always thought that was predetermined. Wasn’t it Rail Express?
  2. As others have mentioned the lines raison d'etre, namely coal traffic has gone. Whether the Woodhead tunnels form part of HSN/NPR/HS3 remains to be seen. The current proposals strike in a north easterly direction from Manchester Airport to Leeds via Manchester and Bradford which probably makes more sense in terms of where the major population centres are. It may make more sense to convert the remaining the stub to Hadfield/Glossop (along with Rosehill/Marple) to Metrolink operation as per the original Light Rail proposals.
  3. That was a favourite spot for me too, and also at the Asda car park on the Down side.
  4. North Manchester was like a different world to me. I’ve only been to Newton Heath once and there are still several towns in the north of Greater Manchester I’ve never even been to! Favourite spotting locations were typically Victoria, Piccadilly, Longsight, Stockport and Cheadle Hulme. Further afield the likes of Preston, Warrington, Crewe, Sheffield, Leeds and York together with Scotland and the south east on holidays.
  5. Hi Colin, another fascinating video. I have enjoyed watching all your videos. Many thanks. Cheers, Jim
  6. This is a beautiful model railway. The line closed before I was born and I only have vague memories of the station building in use as a DIY shop prior to demolition so this is great to see. Is the layout to scale and do you have a track plan that you can please share?
  7. I had planned to build a lockdown layout myself. Haven’t got round to it yet. Will follow this with interest. Jim
  8. Hi Martin, that’s great - is this something you can please share, if not too much trouble? I’m sure this would be of interest to the group. Cheers, Jim
  9. HI Colin, great video. Brings back happy memories of Dinting. Is that an overhead wiring train in the background at 28:40? Cheers, Jim
  10. Hi Charlie, That is great news and I will be after one for sure. Out of interest I have always wondered what is the Longsight depot bird logo? It looks like a bird of prey, an eagle perhaps but what kind of bird is it and what is the significance to Longsight?
  11. Hi Tom, mine (90 005) is the same, I have just taken it out of the box - there is a slight bit of ‘travel’ in the bogie - perhaps 3mm. There must have also been a separate detachable part (possibly a lifting point) which is missing from one corner of that bogie. There was nothing that I could see in the box (I had it chipped) so presume this must’ve fallen out during fitting.

Thanks Mick. Not being a Pacer expert (!) what timeframe did the prototype run from / to? Were they like this from introduction or were these a later modification? Cheers, Jim

This is great news Charlie and whilst I would certainly be up for at least one Provincial example it is disappointing (though understandable given current circumstances) that the original GMT and Brown/Cream ‘Skipper’ liveries aren’t being produced as originally planned. I might however be tempted by another Provincial example particularly if it has Network North West logos as suggested by Mark. Jim

Network North West logo - good call.
  15. Hi Peter, Great models as always. The first bridge looks like Wilmslow Road. Will you be modelling the adjacent pipe bridge? Is the second bridge the one leading from Sandhurst Road at the Up end of the goods yard? Cheers, Jim
  16. Thanks for posting. Interesting track plan - great use of space.
  17. Layout looks great, especially with the BR Blue. Do you have a track plan?
  18. Apologies if this been covered before but I couldn’t find anything - what time period is the Blue 87 035 suitable for? I am guessing late 70s/early 80s?
  19. Hi Rick, I believe in later years the York - Aberystwyth working was sometimes even a Deltic which changed to an electric at Stockport. Not sure what would take it forward from Crewe? Jim
  20. When did the Liverpool Pullman stop running?
  21. When did steam cease working at CPC UK in Trafford Park?
  22. Wasn’t it official referred to as ‘Revised Blue’?
  23. How long did the Executive Dark Grey Large Logo last on 87 006 and when was it repainted - presumably into InterCity Executive livery? Cheer, Jim
  24. Hi Nigel, I thought there were two shafts in the new tunnel - a new one and another connected to one of the existing shafts of the old tunnel? Jim
