  1. I really enjoy this thread and the insight into your world Jim. I was wondering, do you have to seek permission from your employers to post the pics and info or is it not an issue ?
  2. Hi This looks a really good project. I'm looking forward to seeing the progress. Tim
  3. This is great news about the 45. But I do hope Heljan give serious consideration to the headcode fonts and get it right this time, unlike their previous attempts on their diesel locos. Here's hoping! Tim
  4. Good idea! I bet that thin polystyrene you can get on a roll to insulate walls would work too. Tim
  5. Neil Only just come across this thread and what you have achieved is absolutely fantastic. Really enjoyed looking at the progress. Tim
  6. That's really useful info. Many thanks for your help. Very much appreciated. Tim
  7. Hi Can anyone advise on the best decoder for the Hornby class 71? My understanding is that it requires a mini 8 pin to fit inside the body. I see Hattons do a mini 8 pin in their range but it says it's 2 function. Would that be sufficient? Many thanks in advance. Tim
  8. Hi Can anyone tell me if any of these wagons ever carried the Railfreight livery? Thanks Tim
  9. That looks terrific! You've done a fantastic job there!! Tim
  10. I've been looking through some other of my pics and these shots of 47 467 on 17 Aug 1998 on 6G85 1047 Workington to Bescot (at Carlisle) show a nice shabby paintwork on a par with the 47 537 Kernow model!

  12. Here's a pic I took at Newcastle on 26 March 1989. My notes say it was on a Manchester service. Loco adjacent is 47 556 with the 0955 to Poole.
  13. I recently purchased the Kernow Railfreight red SPA wagon which was rather poorly weathered., so I resprayed it with halfords grey primer and Railmatch 450 faded railfreight red and added fox transfers and humbrol Matt varnish. I think it gives the look of the faded red very well. Still needs a sympathetic weathering!
  14. I was just reading the review of the D600s in Rail Express and was wondering if the headcode fonts for the D600s were different to the rest of the BR diesel fleet. The blue model shows 4V29 and the '9' has a curved 'tail'. On all the headcodes I've seen the 'tail' is straight and angled rather than curved. It seems a shame if (yet again) the incorrect font has been used.
  15. The thing I would like to see, which still seems to confound manufacturers, is the proper printing of headcodes on diesel and electric locos using the correct font and spacing. Has anyone seen the latest offering from Heljan on their Hymeks? Horrendous. Tim
  16. Well I can't vouch for the actual scale precision, but I very successfully used mesh from a frying pan anti spatter guard! I know it sounds an unusual thing but you can get them in the pound shops in the cooking utensil section. They are like a big fly swatter with a handle and the idea is you put the large mesh area over the frying pan when cooking and the mesh catches any spitting fat. I simply cut the mesh from it with a Stanley knife. Then I cut the mesh into strips, then into individual panels. The panels were easy to fit to the plastic posts with super glue. I used brass rods across the top to mimic the barbed wire. Tim
  17. Looks great. I would never have even thought of spacing the sleepers but it makes a huge difference. Do you think I'd hit problems splitting the sleepers up on flexitrack which was formed in,say,a 2nd radius curve? I've always imagined the sleepers helped maintain the curve. Thanks Tim
  18. That is a terrific layout and the viaduct is simply marvellous. Great work. Tim
  19. Hi all Thanks so much for all the advice. Really informative. Tim
  20. Double sided tape. Never thought of that. Great idea. Cheers!! Tim
  21. Hi I'm going to try and scratchbuild a bus depot and thought I'd use styrene sheet covered in slaters embossed brick sheet. I was wondering which glue would be best to use on this project. I have poly cement and a bottle of limolene (which I have never used). I'm concerned that if I use the wrong glue the plastics may warp over time. Many thanks Tim
