  1. Seen one, unimpressed. Bring back 56's The 58's weren't used here, they couldn't make it with a loaded train up the gradient of GunHouse (Gunness) bank from the Trent into Scunthorpe, here in the Lincolnshire flatlands
  2. But how good ARE they? For the thick edge of £500, there are lots of posts on other forums about the amount of filler needed, missing detail, grilles not lining up. And when a brass kit costs less than half that, and has far more detail..... I'll sing their praises whatever if they do Falcon, mind..
  3. Had we already got to 70014, then? Which one got dropped, and do we have further info on it's fate?
  4. From the French: Un ciseau: a chisel. Des ciseaux: a pair of scissors So I suppose a pair of chisels....
  5. More lovely shots. The last one of the forecourt, which is in focus, the cars look real too.
  6. There just are no more superlatives left. Well done indeed.
  7. Looking forward to seeing this.
  8. The whole thing is just so. No words missing. Those etches look 3-D, are they?
  9. I too was blown away by the shot of the Standard Class 4 and it's train. Have you done anything to the loco? And I echo your sentiments regarding Tony and Little Bytham.
  10. The only thing missing from those Little Bytham photos is the details of what loco, train etc etc. I mean, how can us internet 'spotters keep up?
  11. Dunno, but spotters around our area always referred to it as the "Scotch Goods".
  12. I hope I'm not doing wrong, but here is a link to Doncaster: http://www.freewebs.com/doncaster/ Modern image, yes, but........
  13. That film was very evocative. Pity it wan't slightly better quality. I wonder if the editor/producer intentionally put "THE END" in huge letters just after the first Deltic made it's appearance?
  14. Isn't there Doncaster too? I'm sure I've seen you-tube video of it. I would have thought Darlington would have made a good subject to model, it had a large steam shed right next to the station, with plenty of pacifics, plus visitors heading to and from the nearby North Road Works. The station had stopping and through lines, excuse to run a fast train on the through.
  15. Lovely photos of both, very inspirational, but depressing in that it's all gone............. My one question, Sir Murrough Wilson? Looks very dirty. Which shed had her at that time? Not Top Shed, surely?

    Dapol 'Western'

Ha! You 4mm modellers don't know just how lucky you are, (Well, you probably do if you are over 30). I model 7mm, my favourite loco in diesel outline was the Brush prototype 1200 "Falcon".......which, incidentally, for you younger people who never saw it, had Maybach engines but electric tranmission, the traction motors etc being the basis of the Brush 4, or class 47 as it became. But have I ANY chance of said model of Falcon in 7mm? Nope...........despite thefact that Heljan's first run of 1000 in 4mm scale sold out in days, and prompted another run afterwards. Oh well, back to bugging PW and JLTRT. To Dapol Dave: the Western looks great..........7mm scale any time? I'm also loving the manufacturer/customer interaction. Just as it ought to be. Well done Dapol.
  17. Even without the platform top, I find the second last photo VERY evocative. Something about the composition......... And A3's always looked good from that view.
  18. Would that A5 tank have got as far as Grimsby? Wouldn't it have been more likely to have been an Immingham B1? Here's a chance to own 61379, "Mayflower".........although by all accounts she was a bit of a clunker.
  19. Was a western region Loco, based on BR for a LONG time after it as bought from Brush. It worked passengers, and, being 100mph rated, as against the Western's 90mph, was liked by the Western Region engine men. It then got moved onto freight due to lack of ETH, and was based on BR, then CF, then EJ. Plenty of chances it went through Leamington, I'd say.........
  20. As our Scotttish friends wiould say, "Aye, right!" Any chance you could gently nudge PW towards falcon? I'd love one before I go..........
  21. Will this electrification include both Nottingham, a sizeable city, and the Erewash valley line?
  22. Given that part of the statement has halved the Humber Bridge debt, and restructured the rest at a lower interest rate, maybe, just maybe, they are starting to see the Humber area for what it COULD be, rather than the depressed backwater it currently is? Then maybe we will see the wires go to Hull? We could then have hourly electric services to London, alternating with those from Leeds. If they picked up at Stainforth, they would catch traffic from the south bank, there is a large unused carpark there.
  23. That 9F looks MASSIVE..........and I don't just mean big, I mean it looks somehow, heavy. No wonder we called them "spaceships" mind.
  24. Does anyone know if the electrification will extend Eastwards to Hull? It WAS the traditional start of the trans-Pennine trains, and must be one of the largest cities in the UK without a decent train service......
