  1. Visited a newly opened hobby shop today - while browsing the teeny railway section, a young clerk remarked: "you actually like trains? Don't you find them boring?"

You should have asked him if he found being a clerk boring.

Ask him/her what their hobby is....

  2. I don't want to head in to work - I want to browse RMweb and have a snooze!

  3. A budget O gauge gronk? Dapol, stop toying with my imaginary wallet! Not to mention Hatton's minus VAT comes out to a very sweet £140!!!

  4. Made some quick paper mockups of a Wisbech tram in 2mm and 7mm scales -- fun stuff!

  5. You know you're hamhanded when you've got more scars from modelling than you have actual models to show for!

  6. A moment of silence for Alan Pegler and his family - to him we are graciously indebted. ):

  7. is pondering the freelance style of modeling ala John Ahern's MVR at Pendon..

Recent entries by "Snitzl" in the blogs may help with inspiration.

I've been thinking the same thing for years. Lack the discipline to do it though.

  8. Just ordered my first ever RTR loco! I'm excited - but amazed at how quickly £90/$140 went!

Surprisingly not, Matt! A Dapol 121 in BR Green with speed whiskers, much to my delight. :D

  9. So I'm RMweb user #13333 - sign of luck or bad omen? You decide!

I think it's buck and lad omen.

  10. Looks like my American "hand egg" team's season ends here! Lungs are coarse from shouting. Back to RMweb then!

  11. I believe it was mentioned earlier that 2012 would see a 'conversion' package of sorts that, presumably with the removal of the old non-NEM socket, would fit non-NEM stock.
  12. Did Dapol's 121 sell like hotcakes or was it merely a short production run? Green with whiskers are nowhere to be found!

  13. A round of e-applause for Jim and Andy for working so vigilantly over the holidays to fix our little home away from home!

  14. How I'd love to leave the armchair stage of this hobby - but that dictates getting a higher paying job. Acquiring the latter requires further education - which requires even more! What a world.

Not really....just go for something small and simple :)

  15. Wrecked my leg at work today - I'll be hobbling a while, but I've finally a legit excuse to while away my hours on RMweb..

  16. I should have known that being assured by my boss that I wouldn't work today would mean just the opposite..

  17. Just discovered that Jack Trollope and company have updated the Small Layout Scrapbook with their long awaited tribute to Carl Arendt. Fantastic work to all involved!

  18. I've just realized that in all my eighteen years, I've never ridden behind a standard gauge steam loco. If only preserved steam was more accessible here in the states..

  19. B12s are lovely - certainly Hornby's latest must be a cut above the secondhand Triang version I had as a kid!
  20. Love those tiny Tomix points - I've a circle of their first and second radius and find them quite pleasing for Setrack. Will you be using any of their pavement inserts at all, or will it all become sceniced?
  21. Good God, what fantastic structural modeling! A standard to aspire to in scales of all sizes, let alone 2mm! Certainly your years of research have already repaid themselves and I await further progress eagerly. Envious!
  22. Some oddities from an American show - a $400 pre-China Farish spamcan, an ancient Roco shunter, and a Lima brake van. Ten dollars later the latter two came home with me - the spamcan shall have to wait for some other poor chump!

  23. Absolutely fantastic little layout and it's extension plank. Certainly an inspiration! Some of my favorite stock running on a superbly detailed, yet compact layout. Proof that well used RTR with a bit of it and the old standby Electrofrogs can go alot farther than the rivet counters might let on!
  24. How I mourn the loss of the father of all things 'micro managing,' Carl Arendt. Projects such as yours were seen with a frequency of every two weeks before his passing - and rekindled my childhood dream of building a model railway. A 'rivet counter' I was and never will be - I love flights of fancy, or in this case, trips on rails! You look like you're headed off to a great start. Look forward to seeing where this project takes you!
