I'm sure Mangelwurzels (as for sugar beet) would have been another bulk fodder rail traffic commodity, they being suited to relatively easy bulk handling and storage.
P.S The P.O wagon with the `beet load looks superb!

It's nasty stuff!
I knew someone who got food poisoning from a can of Alphabet Spaghetti - They told me it caused the most painful vowel problems they'd ever had......and they ended up badly consonantipated.🫣

Just swung by to offer best wishes to our Baz, who's poorly sick in hospital.....and is perhaps making light of precisely how unwell he really is at the moment.
Get well soon chuck.🫶......or else!😊

The mention of such may get stuck in some people's throat, though.
Redux Fromage: doubtless a chunk of the GWR; the "Great Way Rind" (pronounced as per QE II)

If it recoils in horror as you open the door: "over-ripe"
If it is laying there motionless: "good to eat"
If it comes at you as you open the door: "run!"

As a quick aside, how is the 'use by' date determined for Stilton, Roquefort, Danish Blue et alia which are already mouldy when bought and mature with age?
It's easy to gauge visually, the infection on such cheese simply "clears-up" as they overage, due to the excess of Penicillium bacillus.

You’ll be surprised to learn how effective dogs are in assisting in the treatment of many psychological dysfunctions. Not for nothing are dogs considered to be the quintessential “support animal” (unlike cats, who generally - I think – are indifferent to whether you live or die as long as you leave the tin opener to a relative who can open their tins of food).

Though I understand that very few younger Japanese have any idea whatsoever of the Japanese Prisoner of War Camps, atrocities etc etc. They're not mentioned....
I fear the carpet bombing of Dresden etc., doesn't feature on our National Curriculum.....all perhaps with good reason; that these are lessons beyond those about apportionment of blame; rather to learn the whole concept of avoiding the cause of such conflict ever again.

Today's drive to the Trafford Centre, was funded by GMEV, whom paid for our travel costs with free electricity from their charging point; we were there first at the row of six bays in the West car park this morning, when we returned after lunch the other bays were all occupied by various models of gorgeous Teslas, yet another cheerily waving their arrival, as we departed.......this E.V malarky is catching on.

Two of my favourite Welsh words:
Elliw (The arrival of Spring)
Hiraeth (Longing - particularly for home)
.....and a four-line Englyn, about the Sheepdog:
Y Ci Defaid
(Thomas Richards)
"Rhwydd gamwr hawdd ei gymell–i'r mynydd,
A'r mannau anghysbell;
Hel a didol diadell
Yw camp hwn yn y cwm pell"
.....and a rough transl. which can't do justice to the beauty of the sentiment, or strict poetic metre."The Sheep Dog
A fast strider, his coercion easy -- to the mountain
And the remote places;
To gather a scattered flock
Is an achievement in the far Valley"- 20
