  1. :-( You may suggest anything you like. 34066 Spitfire - various family connections. Adrian
  2. 34050 Royal Observer Corps for me. Adrian
  3. Very nice, and I like the name. Adrian
  4. Thanks for the detailed explanation. "Phew, I do go on a bit, don't I?" No (well not in this case). It might have been a simple question, but not necessarily a simple answer. Adrian
  5. A question I keep meaning to ask, but never remember to. How are you planing on routing the droppers to the track for the power, or is the viaduct short enough to be able to do so via the baseboard at each end ? Adrian
  6. When I was knee high to the proverbial grasshopper, I was taken on a bus trip to Hardcastle Crags. At one point, we all had to get off and walk as the bus wasn't powerful enough to get up the hill with the passengers on board. Adrian
  7. They are along side a canal, not a river (the river is the to left of the canal). I suspect that if they tried to raise the canal level that much, it would have overflowed in a number of places. I have seen pictures of barges being dragged out into a field, but that was late 1960s / early 70s so some form of mechanical winch or tractor would have been used. The barges in question had reached the end of their working lives, and were set on fire. Adrian
  8. Report it to the mods (the ... link at the top right of the post), and ask them to move it to where you want it. Adrian
  9. A few years ago, someone at work was looking for suggestions for a new vehicle. From the requirements list, a couple of us concluded that what he needed was a Land Rover 101 FC. IIRC he ended up with a mundeo estate. Adrian
  10. Over a period of 20 years, between Dad and myself, we had 3 SWBs (2 * IIA and 1 III). All had FWHs (and overdrive), and I don't recall having any problem with them. Apart from welding, most of the maintenance work was done "in house". Adrian
  11. Was the Warren Branch built by the GWR, or acquired by them at a later stage. If the latter, then structures could have been built by the Warren Railway Company to whatever design suited them. Figworthy was built by the West Of England Railway Company, but was taken over by the GWR when they ran out of money. Adrian
  12. Designs for 3D printing are available for download. Adrian
  13. Reminds me of some one (sadly no longer with us) I used to know who was a RAF navigator, often on the regular run from Brize Norton to the states. On one occasion the east coast of the states was weather bound, so they had to put into Bermuda instead. They were stuck there for several days. Adrian
  14. Lunesters may (or may not) be interested in watching a programme that was on BBC4 this evening (5/1). Winter Walks (one of a short series). This one was in Dentdale, and finished at Dent Railway Station (although it was described as a Train Station). Apart from the scenery as they moved up the dale from Dent itself, there was a short drone shot of Arten Gill viaduct, and it ended with a shot of what looked more like Dent Head viaduct. For those in the UK, it is no doubt available via i-Player. Adrian
  15. If I recall correctly, the Ffestiniog were running on oil in the late 70s. Adrian
  16. I dropped an order for some transfers in the post on Christmas Eve morning, and the order was delivered yesterday (January 2nd). In view of the time of the year, as well as the problems with the postal service, I thought that the service (by John and Royal Mail) ought be to praised. Adrian
  17. Mackintosh's (of Quality Street fame) were also from the hallowed acres of God's Own County. Adrian
  18. On several occasions, the Aire at Castleford was solid with foam between the weir and the road bridge. I think I've seen pictures of where it had invaded the town. Adrian
  19. At one point I had a copy of the plans for the lift, but I haven't seen them for several decades. I was fancying it as a possible model. Latterly, the coal was supplied from Kellingley, but at various points in time, it also came from the St Aidan's open cast site (before it sprung a leak), Park Hill Colliery (NE of Wakefield), and they also ran a trial of loading at British Oak (which crops up on here from time to time), but there was one lock that would only take one pan or the tug at a time. Not sure if Allerton Bywater, Ferry Fryston or Wheldale were used for Ferrybridge C, but they were used by conventional barges for A and/or B. Adrian
  20. Would it be possible to scale them to (say) 1.9mm/foot (and breathe in when you are being scanned) ? Adrian
  21. Never believe anything until it is officially denied ! Adrian
  22. For the colour, not sure if these help. They are of Dent Head viaduct, taken on a dull day. And one of Arten Gill from the road up the dale Adrian
